This faculty will hold a Healthcare Simulation Educator Certification within 18 months of hiring to this role. Workdays and times vary depending on the SoN courses’ schedule for each semester. Duties include but are not limited to: Major Responsibility One: School of Nursing Lab and Simulation Operations Maintain current knowledge and best practices of simulation activities. Establish a semester schedule for S&L in sync with curriculum needs for all programs. Oversee the Open Lab Scheduling system to track student attendance. Oversee availability of supplies and equipment for all programs at the campus to include: Maintain accurate master supplies inventory according to established par level. Complete full inventory each academic year (spring semester) Make recommendations to the S&L Associate Director for new equipment. Report and follow through any needed facilities, buildings, or room repairs or improvements. Oversee maintenance and proper function of all S&L mannikins and laboratory equipment to include: Maintain simulation mannikins and other lab equipment in working order. Manage equipment repair. Initiate assistance from campus IT and/or vendor representatives as needed, with follow through for resolution of any malfunction. Direct end-of-semester terminal cleaning of workspace, mannikins and equipment. Arrange for hazardous waste (sharps) disposal. Arrange for laundry pick up for all campus locations. Confirm assigned duties for their campus S&L personnel are completed. Provides guidance as needed. Select and supervise skills lab student workers. Manage any emergency situations on site and direct students, faculty, and Extended Learning staff (as needed) for everyone’s safety. Respond to untoward events as needed, such as a faculty absence, or facility physical plant event impacting operations. Major Responsibility Two: Student and Faculty Support/Instruction Collaborate with subject matter experts (Course Lead (CL)/Course Coordinators (CC) &/or Program Coordinator (PC)) minimally once a semester, to: Provide S&L activities that support student achievement of Course Learning Outcomes (competencies). Ensure practice currency of S&L activities. Ensure simulation activities, including those using standardized patients or interprofessional collaborations, met INACLS standards, including: Maintain currency of simulation pre and post activities in Elsevier. Update Elsevier simulation scenarios and products each semester. Simulation theaters are prepared for the assigned scenarios to promote realism and equipment is operating before start time. Simulation Faculty are present for each stage of simulation activity. Simulation Faculty or Simulation Technician are present to operate the manikin during scenarios and guide Clinical Faculty with progression and cues required for the scenario. Simulation Faculty either assist or facilitate every debriefing considering the Clinical Faculty’s experience and completion of the Debriefing Training Module and competency sign-off. Identify and bring forward new simulation opportunities to integrate into the nursing curriculum. Support laboratory instructional activities, to include: Orient clinical faculty to S&L facilities, relevant policies, procedures, and Handbook. Direct clinical faculty to simulation training; maintain records of such training completion. Promote / support clinical faculty to develop student’s clinical judgement and acquisition of competency as needed. Set up the equipment needed based on course learning outcomes and competencies in accordance with the course syllabus. Intervene as needed if equipment is mishandled or lab procedures are not followed. Verify all faculty and staff are performing their respective duties. Serve as a mentor to clinical faculty for remediation of high-risk students identified by faculty. Serve as a resource to address faculty, student, or staff concerns. Follow through to resolve issues with appropriate personnel. Serve as a clinical resource for remediation and tutoring encompassing theory and clinical learning. May provide remediation instruction or proctoring of SafeMedicate exams if needed. Major Responsibility Three: Regulatory and Accreditation Participate in SoN Faculty, Curriculum, and S&L meetings. POSITION PURPOSE: The Simulation Center and Skills Lab Technician, under general supervision of the Nursing Department Chair, is an integral part of nursing education at CSU Bakersfield and is responsible for the technical operation of both simulation and medical equipment held within the skills lab and simulation center. Responsibilities involve programming simulators, ensuring simulation rooms are setup in line with planned programs, ensuring simulators are functioning fully and having an ability to undertake routine maintenance and repairs as instructed by manufacturers. Candidate must be prepared to undertake additional training in simulator maintenance due to evolving changes to simulators over time. The position serves as the primary resource of the day-to-day program operational needs, providing general support to faculty, maintaining contact with vendor and company representatives, and ensuring purchasing needs and tracking. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Lab Support Independently perform routine equipment maintenance within the Simulation Center to ensure proper working order of equipment and associated computers to align with planned programs. Maintain equipment in good operating condition; if needed, perform minor repairs or get items repaired. Coordinate clinical labs schedule and oversee equipment and supplies. Maintain inventory records of equipment and supplies. Assist in purchasing, preparing, delivering, retrieving. and maintaining an inventory for a variety of materials. Lead and train student assistants. Train faculty and student assistants in regards to equipment, chemical and radioactive material use in accordance with current local, state, and federal law. Track course spending by level and course. Work with team leaders to purchase each semester’s lab supplies. Maintain purchasing records and monthly reconciliation report for Procard purchases. Attend Learning Resources Committee (LRC) meetings, staff meetings, Natural Sciences, Mathematics & Engineering (NSME) safety meetings, and Nursing Department meetings. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE - Equivalent to three (3) years of experience providing instructional support services for a related unit or discipline, or in producing materials or supplies or repairing equipment in a discipline related to the area to which assigned.
