Excellent part-time job opportunity for individuals to provide staff support and customer service for the City of Huntington Beach Community Services Department. The Community Services Department includes Recreation, Human & Cultural Services; Facilities, Development & Concessions; Marine Safety; and Beach Operations. These are Non-Perm, Part-Time positions. Temporary/part-time employment is restricted to 1,000 hours within a 12-month period (July 1 - June 30) and does not qualify to receive City benefits, except those required by law. The City does not belong to the Social Security system. However, enrollment in an alternative retirement program is mandatory which requires an employee contribution of 7½% of base earnings to the Public Agency Retirement System (PARS). There are no rights to employment and employment may end with or without cause or advance notice. Further restrictions apply to CalPERS retired annuitants. Positions in this classification are deemed safety sensitive under Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations and subject to drug and alcohol testing. Employees regularly assigned/required to drive a City or personal vehicle in the course and scope of work shall be required to participate in the DMV Employer Pull Notice program. Examples of Essential Duties Delivers demand responsive transportation services to ensure timely, efficient and safe customer service. Drives various routes using guidance and direction from Senior Services Transportation Coordinator. Investigates complaints, accidents and personal injuries and completes necessary reports. Provides safe and efficient services needed to facilitate orderly movement of passengers. The Senior Services Driver transports seniors to medical and non-medical appointments and to the Senior Center in Central Park(C.S.S.) lunch program, activities and classes by city automobile, van or bus. The driver assists frail or handicapped clients with boarding the vehicle and upon arrival. Drivers must have sufficient strength and dexterity to provide physical assistance to clients and a willingness to work with frail elderly. Performs routine vehicle maintenance. Keeps records and makes reports of travel schedules. Performs other related duties as required. Note : The preceding functions have been provided as examples of the types of work performed by employees assigned to this job classification. The City at its discretion, may add, modify, change or rescind work assignments as needed. Qualifications Knowledge of : City and departmental policies and procedures; City geography; transportation routes; safe driving practices; California Vehicle Code; vehicle preventative maintenance; customer service methods and practices; senior program services and related referral sources; human development and psychology of the aged. This is a sworn law enforcement position with an emphasis on Community Policing, focused on crime prevention, organizational excellence, community engagement, and inclusion. To Qualify ENTRY LEVEL POLICE OFFICER QUALIFICATIONS At the time of application: Must be 20.5 years old. Possess a High School Diploma or GED. LATERAL POLICE OFFICER QUALIFICATIONS Possess a High School Diploma or GED. Must have three (3) years of continuous service in another police agency as a sworn police officer for a recognized state, county, or city (municipal) agency, to include sworn Indian Tribal Police, AND must have been employed there within the last two (2) years. Military police, Corrections and Parole/Probation DO NOT QUALIFY as a Lateral Police Officer. Federal Law Enforcement experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis. The Recruitment Process FRONTLINE WRITTEN EXAM (Pass/Fail) Lateral applicants and applicants who possess a bachelor's degree or will have a bachelor's degree by the time of hire are NOT required to take the National Testing Network (NTN) Frontline Written Exam. General Wages & Benefits Information Health Care (Medical, Vision, and Dental) A choice of two medical/vision plans and two dental plans. Employee Assistance Plan The Employee Assistance Plan (EAP) provides confidential counseling services for employees and eligible dependents. The plan provides for up to five (5) free visits per year. Flexible Spending Accounts The Medical Expense Reimbursement Plan (MERP) allows you to make annual pre-tax contributions to your account to pay for eligible medical/dental/vision expenses that are not paid by your health insurance (deductibles, co-pays, etc.). The Dependent Care Account Program (DCAP) allows you to pay for your eligible dependent care expenses with pre-tax dollars. The maximum allowable contribution is $5,000 per year. Retirement Membership in the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS)/Oregon Public Service Retirement Plan (OPSRP). The City currently pays the employee's share of the retirement contribution. Employees who are OPSRP members are vested after five years of contributions or when they reach age 65 (age 60 for police and fire). Option to contribute a portion of your earnings on a pre-tax basis to the City's Deferred Compensation Program. Paid Leave One hundred twelve (112) hours of vacation each year initially. This accrual will increase over time. Sick leave typically accrues up to a maximum rate of one hundred four (104) hours per calendar year. Nine (9) paid holidays each year. Four (4) personal days accrue each year. Family Medical Leave In accordance with federal and state law and the City policy for family medical leave, the City grants family and medical leave to eligible employees for certain family and medical-related reasons.
