Oversees the design and use of databases for analysis of health problems. Oversees the design and management of surveillance systems for diseases of public health importance. Responsible for advanced descriptive and comprehensive analyses of surveillance data including epidemiological research, population analysis such as burden of illness, analysis of evidence-based best practices, and health data research to drive community health strategies, program development and cross department initiatives. Conducts and oversees literature reviews for design of programs, preparation of publications and planning and evaluation. Designs, prepares and reviews reports from analyses of surveillance data, literature reviews and other information. Prepares and presents reports, statistical analyses, scientific papers, specific studies and trends in epidemiology and public health to assess the health needs of the community to diverse audiences. Reviews and prepares responses to requests for information; answer inquiries related to diseases and investigations from the media, medical community, and government agencies. Develops and provides recommendations about the control of disease and injury problems based on the results of surveillance, field investigations and laboratory tests and on available and acceptable methods of control. Assists in the development of grant proposals, scopes of work, budgets, and reports. Keeps pace with public and population health trends, best-practices, and evidence-based programs. May be required to respond afterhours, including holidays and weekends, in the event of a departmental or City-wide emergency.
