Job Description and Duties This position is for Coalinga State Hospital. Incumbents work under general supervision of a Registered Nurse or Senior Psychiatric Technician and, in addition to their responsibilities, provide a basic level of general fundamental nursing care and are expected through their attitude, knowledge, and performance to facilitate the adherence of treatment programs of patients. This position is PERMANENT/INTERMITTENT and is within our INTERNAL REGISTRY. The Internal Registry consists of Permanent Intermittent employees (PIE) who are available to work as needed (potential float capacity). The registry provides services for programs and other clinical areas in order to maintain minimum staffing requirements and reduce the cost of overtime. You may be moved to another work location during your shift according to facility needs. Permanent intermittent employees may not work more than 1500 hours in any calendar (January through December) year unless approved by the Central Staffing Office (CSO) Administrator/designee, Executive Director and DSH-Sacramento Human Resources and authorized by Cal-HR. In accepting employment as an intermittent employee, the employee agrees to comply with the minimum work requirements and scheduling parameters as described in the attached document labeled "Duty Statement" below. Working Conditions In order to maintain a position in the Registry, all permanent intermittent employees are required to work: 1. Twelve 8-hour shifts per calendar month or the equivalent total hours (96 hours) if shifts are more than or less than 8-hours. Six of those shifts or the equivalent total hours if the shifts are more than or less than 8-hours must be weekend shifts scheduled between Friday PM shift and Sunday NOC shift, unless otherwise approved by the CSO Administrator. 2. It is a self-contained psychiatric hospital constructed with a security perimeter. California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) provides perimeter security as well as transportation of patients to outside medical services and court proceedings. In accordance with the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) State Public Health Order issued on August 5, 2021 and amended on December 22, 2021, Department of State Hospital Operational Procedure SQIP-OP-8311 and Policy Directive 5112 , all workforce members in the Department of State Hospitals must meet the department’s vaccination/booster requirement for COVID-19. The Public Health Order also provides limited exemptions from the vaccination/booster requirement for religious beliefs or qualifying medical reasons.
