ABOUT THE POSITION: The Sankofa Scholars Programs Specialist will provide a full range of academic support services, and cultural activities to promote success for participating students in the Sankofa Scholars Program at CSU, East Bay. Introduction Definition THE JOB: This is the advanced journey level classification in the professional Mental Health/Substance Abuse series. Incumbents provide intensive therapy, treatment and diagnosis for the most complex cases and act as a consultant in specialized areas such as adult treatment, after care, families, juveniles, older adults, or mentally ill sex offenders. Position Information Independently manage/review student's academic requirements - Advise students on university policies and procedures; maintenance of their academic record; communicate with students over the phone, in person and via e-mail regarding their eligibility status; and counsel students on their degree process. - Resolve student registration and records issues including, but not limited to, registration eligibility, status, payments, administrative and financial holds. - Counsel students on CSU and SFSU policies and interpreting/applying policies to resolve issues. - Advise students on procedures as they relate to the Registrar's Office including, but not limited to, Board of Appeals and Review, Retroactive Withdrawals, etc. - Analyze and determine eligibility for incoming and out-going students in Special Programs, such as Step to College. - Counsel and notify students about deadlines and procedures for registration, probation and disqualification, degree progress and graduation. Bargaining Unit: Management CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT Prior to the date of hire, applicants must undergo a fingerprint test by the Department of Justice, pass a medical examination (which may include a drug screening and possibly a psychological evaluation), sign a constitutional oath, and submit proof of U.S. citizenship or legal right to remain and work in the U.S. For some positions, applicants may also be required to submit proof of age, undergo a background investigation (which may include a voice stress analysis and/or a polygraph), and/or be bonded.
