Summary This is an Extra Help Position. Extra Help means this may be a Part-Time or Full-Time, Non-Permanent position. The number of hours worked per week may vary and depend on the needs of the department. For terms and conditions concerning Extra Help with Butte County, see Section 6.13c of the 2019Personnel Rules. Under general direction, performs general gate keeping duties for the County Landfill, checks and weighs materials, and checks incoming loads for hazardous and prohibited materials. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed, and may be required to perform additional, position-specific tasks. Monitors entrance to county landfill; enforces compliance with landfill operational standards. Directs customers to the designated areas for type of refuse being disposed. Screens all loads brought to landfill to prevent admission of any potential hazardous substance or prohibited materials. Weighs materials and assesses necessary fees. Collects disposal fees, issues receipts and provides correct change; balances receipts and cash register at end of each day. Verifies, balances and reconciles accounts and records. Prepares and forwards billings for credit account customers. Performs clerical and routine correspondence; prepares standard reports associated with landfill and waste diversion. Recommends distribution and sorting of waste materials in accordance with policy. Identifies and recommends materials for recycling. Greets the public and assists users with landfill information. Performs clerical duties; establishes and maintains files, bookkeeping records and database including records of loads and times. Performs other duties as assigned or required. Minimum Qualifications A high school diploma or GED equivalent certificate. One (1) year experience in clerical recordkeeping. A State of California driver's license may be required. Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements Work is performed in an office and outside environment. May be required to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds. May be exposed to potential dangerous machinery, hazardous materials and extreme weather conditions.
