Internship available with the General Services Department located at 414 East 12th Street and the Parks & Recreation Department located at 4600 E 63rd Street Salary Range: $18.00/hour Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Application Deadline Date: March 1, 2024 Responsibilities About the Architect Division: The City's Architect Division Services supports citywide construction and renovation projects for municipal buildings. The Architect Division Services also administers the 1% for Arts program, is the liaison for the Municipal Arts Commission, and aids the City Manager's Office on development projects. An intern working in this division will have the opportunity to collaborate closely with a team of construction and design professionals in one or more of these service areas. Internship Overview for Architect: While project work can vary from day to day, typical tasks may include the following: Assist the architecture team with preparation of drawings for projects, including conceptual design, space planning, coordination with other disciplines, and construction administration. On-site survey, investigation, and documentation of building conditions, including façade, roof, interiors, structural and other mechanical/ fire protection systems. Work on all phases of City projects, including design, specifications, project team coordination, construction documents, code analysis, and consultant interaction and management. Gather and prepare information regarding cost and time estimates, material requirements, and completion times. Attend meetings and generate meeting minutes. Review and research applicable building codes, ADA standards, and all other applicable industry standards, etc. Prepare material boards and other presentation materials. Assist in preparing field notes. Internship overview for Landscape Architect: Prepare studies, designs, plans, drawings, specifications, and reports for the development of park and recreation areas and facilities. Prepare detailed planting, grading, and site development plans, including time and cost estimates, including field inspections when necessary. Perform related duties as assigned. Qualifications REQUIRES high school diploma or GED and enrollment in an accredited college, university, or trade school. Other Information URGENT!!! For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained. Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical. If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
