About Our Job The Denver Fire Department Fire Academy is currently accepting applications for Health & Wellness Internships for Fall 2019. The opportunity is available from September 2019 - December 2019. Students will be required to work the full amount of hours in order to fulfill the credited hours of the college or university (typically 405 hrs.). These part-time internship hours are flexible between 6am-4pm, Monday through Friday with some weekend events. It is ideal for the Intern to commit to 25 hours per week. The location for this internship is at the Denver Fire Department Fire Academy located at 5440 Roslyn in Denver. The Intern will assist and work alongside the Senior Physical Therapist and Wellness Coordinator. The intern will earn experience in all aspects of physical therapy and fitness field while being emerged in the fire department culture. The intern will be exposed to treatment plans under the direction of the licensed physical therapists. The internship has the potential to be tailored to the interests and strengths of the intern that is selected for the position. The intern will work with patients to identify and improve patient's (firefighters and recruits) movement and function to help promote health and physical resiliency. This is an unpaid academic internship. We are seeking an intern that is looking to obtain academic credit and learning. As an Intern you will have the opportunity to participate in: Coaching Tactical Strength and Conditioning Wellness coordination Physical ability test administration Preparing fitness equipment and area Assist in and develop program design Fitness leadership Nutrition education Functional movement screens and corrective exercises Fitness testing including vo2 sub-max tests Assist with Physical Therapy operations.
