DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Planning & Coordination of Veterans Services & the Veterans Resource Center: Coordinate an effective system for tracking in Peoplesoft and managing prospective and enrolled military-affiliated students at Cal Poly Pomona (CPP) to independently determine their eligibility for benefits in conjunction with the respective Enrollment Management & Services departments (i.e., Admissions, Registrar, and the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships) and Outreach, Recruitment, and Educational Partnerships. Work in conjunction with these offices in making decisions to admit applicants to CPP consistent with applicable provisions of Title V of the State of California Code of Regulations and various orders, regulations, and guidelines of the California State University as it relates to military-affiliated student admissions and benefits (including but not limited to late admission applications, military status verifications, admission deferment requests, re-enrollment after military service, admission appeals, residency, and enrollment deposit waivers for eligible applicants). About the Program: The Writing & Multiliteracy Center (WMC) is an academic program within the John Spoor Broome Library, offering classes on writing & multiliteracy center theory and practices, supporting approximately 5000 writing and multiliteracy tutoring sessions (in person, virtual, and asynchronous) per fiscal year, delivering 100 workshops covering 45 topics, conducting faculty consultations, and hosting activities and events such as Writing Boot Camps, Open Mics, and the annual Plot-a-thon Data Visualization Festival that invites students to compete using data visualizations and storytelling. The WMC manages its own HyFlex teaching classroom and a Multimedia Studio with sound room, green screen, and group presentation space. WMC also coordinates a popular Embedded Multiliteracy Tutor (EMT) program supporting writing and communication intensive courses across disciplines from first-year writing to senior capstones. The EMT program involves close faculty collaboration in the design of tutor interventions, customization of virtual and in-person academic activities, and support for writing or communication-related assignments. About the Position: The STEM Writing Initiative (WI) Activity Support Lead is a federal grant-funded faculty position that is subject to annual renewal of grant funds and ends when the grant expires. As a Student Support Professional I, Academic Related (SSP 1-AR), STEM Writing Initiative Activity Support Lead is expected to provide up to ten hours work, based on total available funding. The STEM Writing Initiative Activity Support Lead engages in complex duties requiring understanding of writing center practices, experience in science communication, as well as interest in establishing relationships with students, faculty, and staff. The STEM WI Activity Support Lead will join an energetic and creative WMC team consisting of a Faculty Director (Associate Professor), two full-time Assistant Directors (Lecturers), a Administrative Analyst, a STEM WI Activity Lead, and other leads of grant-funded project, over 30 undergraduate and professional WMC tutors, and 4 student assistants. The STEM WI Activity Support Lead works under the guidance of the STEM WI Activity Lead and the Faculty Director of the Writing & Multiliteracy Center (Project Manager of the STEM Writing Initiative) and indirectly reports to the Project Director of HSI STEM Grant Student Academic Success & Equity Initiatives. Minimum Degree Requirements: M.S. in STEM field with experience teaching writing, or M.A. in English or related field with extensive experience in teaching STEM or technical writing.
