JOB SUMMARY: Inspects building construction and renovation in progress and upon completion to verify continuous compliance with approved plans, specifications and applicable codes and ordinances. When performing plumbing/mechanical inspections: Conducts hydrostatic tests on fire and water systems. Conducts and witnesses smoke detector tests. Work is performed under the general direction of Chief Building Official with considerable independence in interpreting the building code to architects and building contractors and approving equivalencies which are not outlined in the building code. Work will also involve assistance in preparation of budget for the department.
