The Position Contra Costa County is recruiting for an experienced Assistant County Registrar, with a proven track record, to join our exceptional elections team. The Assistant County Registrar position is at-will, appointed by, reporting to, and receiving overall policy guidance from the elected Clerk-Recorder-Registrar and the Deputy Clerk-Recorder (Chief Operating Officer). This key executive position oversees approximately 30 full-time staff (up to an additional 100 temporary staff during major elections); is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the conduct of all Primary, General, and Special elections; implements policy as it is determined by the Clerk-Recorder-Registrar; acts for the Clerk-Recorder-Registrar when assigned; and performs other related duties as required. Out of state valid motor vehicle operator's license will be accepted during the application process. Education: Possession of a bachelor degree from an accredited college or university with a major in business, public administration, or a closely related field. Experience: Five (5) years of full-time, or its equivalent, increasingly responsible experience in business administration, public administration or elections work. At least two (2) years of experience must have included supervisory or administrative responsibility. Substitution: Additional experience of the type described above may be substituted for the required education on a year for year basis, up to a maximum of four (4) years. No substitution for the supervisory or administrative experience is permitted.
