  • Job Description

    Several full-time positions available with the Neighborhoods and Community Services Department, Neighborhood Preservation & Neighborhood Preservation Illegal Dumping Division, located at 414 E 12th St.
    Salary: Starting at $22.61/hour
    Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00a.m.-5:00p.m.

    Responsibilities

    Neighborhood Preservation

    This is a responsible technical field position with semi-professional work involving municipal code enforcement programs in general sanitation, health safety, property maintenance and nuisance that affect both private residential and commercial properties.

    Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Conducts investigations and inspections of private commercial and residential properties, and vacant lots to determine the nature and scope of environmental and housing problems under Chapter 48 and Chapter 56 code of ordinances.
    • Testifies in Housing Court, Circuit Court, and administrative hearings on City's behalf regarding Property Maintenance Code and Nuisance Code enforcement cases.
    • Performs related duties as required.


    Neighborhood Preservation - Illegal Dumping

    The Illegal Dumping Investigator plays a vital role in maintaining the cleanliness and safety of Kansas City by identifying, investigating, and addressing illegal dumping activities. This is a responsible technical field position that involves semi-professional work focused on enforcement, prevention, and public education related to illegal dumping.

    Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Investigates reports of illegal dumping, collect evidence and interview suspects for enforcement actions.
    • Installs and maintain surveillance cameras, conduct extensive research, prepare reports and issue citations.
    • Testifies in Housing Court on City's behalf regarding Illegal Dumping cases.
    • Requires the physical ability to climb ladders, lift and carry up to 40 pounds, and work outdoors in various weather conditions.



    Qualifications

    REQUIRES high school graduation and 2 years experience in planning/zoning; nuisance housing; building construction or inspection; health, safety, codes and ordinances inspection or investigations; neighborhood/community assistance, code enforcement, social services, background investigations or criminal justice; OR an equivalent combination of qualifying education and experience Must possess a valid State-issued driver's license in accordance with City of KCMO. Must possess or be eligible to obtain required police commission from the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and post offer physical examination as prescribed by the City.

    Positions requiring a high school diploma/GED certificate must be obtained from a school/program accredited by the Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.

    The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
    For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
    Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

    If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
