Opens/repairs locks using hand tools and special equipment; checks for proper operation of locking devices; disassembles padlocks/safe locks/door locks; repairs or replaces worn pins/springs/other parts; adjusts pin length; inserts new or repaired pins into locks to change combination; fabricates new or duplicate keys using key cutting machine; installs locks and strike plates
Maintains and repairs a variety of mechanical and electrical locks/door closures/associated structures; prepares and maintains a file of installed locks and a list of doors that are keyed together or separately; prepares and maintains a list of personnel assigned keys to facility locks; maintains equipment/supply inventory
Exercises independence and initiative in the performance of responsibilities; receives general administrative direction; performs other related work as assigned
Minimum Qualifications: 4-6 years of experience / on-the-job training in the trade area.
Preferred Qualifications/Skills:One or more years of experience involving the installation, repair, and rebuilding of locks.
All requested documents MUST be received by the closing date listed. Contingent upon your position, you may also be eligible to receive:
- A $2.00 per hour shift differential if you are assigned to a shift that begins on or between 12:00pm (noon) and 5:00am and are employed at a 24/7 congregate care facility (i.e. institution, transition center, supervision center, or command center).
- A $0.75 per hour maximum security stipend if you work full-time at a qualifying facility.
- A $1.00 per hour restrictive housing stipend if you are assigned a regular post within a restrict housing/segregation unit at any facility.
The Department of Corrections currently offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of continuous service up to 20 years!
