    Job Location: Southwest District Office (3025 E. Kearney, Springfield, MO 65803)

    Why you’ll love this position:

    The Traffic Operations Engineer evaluates signing, signals, pavement marking and lighting field operations and implements safety improvements; directs and supervises traffic engineering, technician and access management personnel; and oversees permits operations and traffic studies. Responsibilities are performed under general supervision.

    • Direct traffic signal operations, pavement marking and traffic operations.
    • Conduct field inspections of signing, pavement marking, signal operations, access issues and traffic operations.
    • Provide traffic expertise and serve as a technical resource for construction on project core teams and for maintenance crews to resolve engineering concerns; participate in the project scoping process.
    • Conduct and evaluate traffic studies; make traffic control and safety improvement recommendations.
    • Coordinate traffic safety programs including hazard elimination, wet/dry, innovative signal improvements, law enforcement safety task forces, and the state's blueprint for safer roadways.


    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university curriculum.

    • Licensed as a Professional Engineer in the State of Missouri.

    • Six years of experience in transportation engineering, including traffic analysis and design of traffic control devices.

    Special Working Conditions:

    • Job requires exposure to moderately adverse and undesirable environmental conditions.
    • This title requires advanced accreditation or licensure which is only available to holders of specific postsecondary degrees
