Description: Jefferson County seeks a Paralegal for the Human Services Litigation Team of the County Attorney's Office. This team provides legal representation and advice concerning child abuse and/or neglect investigations, dependency or neglect proceedings, juvenile delinquency matters, adult protection investigations and proceedings, mental health cases, drug and alcohol commitments, public assistance applications and appeals, liquor license violation prosecutions, civil collections, child support services, records requests and subpoenas.
Under minimal supervision, this employee performs litigation paralegal work to support activities of the County Attorney's Office Human Services group. The ideal candidate must have strong interpersonal skills, excellent editing skills, be legal-minded, relentlessly detail-oriented, and be a team player. The candidate must also have the proven ability to take the initiative, move between diverse tasks with ease, and must thrive in a high-energy, collegial environment.
SCHEDULE: This position has the potential to operate on a four-day, 40-hour work week (Monday-Thursday) or a standard work week (Monday-Friday). This position also offers the opportunity for remote work on some days of the week.
COMPENSATION: Target Hiring Range: $32.00-$38.00 USD Hourly
Compensation will be determined based on education, experience and skills, as well as Equal Work for Equal Pay and budgetary considerations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:This position involves assisting attorneys in all aspects of legal work and may include:
- Preparing legal files for court hearings
- Direct contact with the public, caseworkers, therapists, opposing attorneys, pro se parents, and the Court
- Filing time sensitive documents
- Assisting with trial preparation
- Preparing correspondence and a variety of legal documents
- Electronic filing of state court documents
- Drafting routine pleadings in state court
- Preparing, reviewing and organizing documents for electronic discovery
- Redacting, numbering and compiling files
- Drafting privilege logs
- Performing a variety of clerical functions to relieve attorneys of day-to-day
administrative functions of the office - Other duties as assigned
Duties assigned may vary according to specific needs of the office or the allocation of the workload.
This employee is responsible for utilizing computerized data entry equipment to draft legal documents, establishing and maintaining electronic filing systems, tracking the progress of cases and answering inquiries pertaining to cases. Software usage includes Time Matters, Hot Docs, Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Pro.
This employee has direct contact with County departments and outside parties so you must have strong interpersonal skills. The position requires strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to work as a team as well as work independently to complete tasks efficiently and accurately.
This employee must be able to multitask in a cubicle environment under deadline pressure. We are looking for someone with a positive can-do attitude who will take ownership of and pride in their work and be willing to help troubleshoot problems of any size.
QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum Qualifications:
Associate degree plus a minimum of one year of work-related experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience on a year-for-year basis. Human Services casework is considered relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications :
Paralegal certificate or associate degree and 3 years of related work experience preferred, or any equivalent combination of education and experience on a year-for-year basis. Human Services casework is considered relevant experience.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
- Prior experience working in a law office or legal department.
- Familiarity with the Colorado Rules of Civil Procedure and experience with
electronic discovery and electronic court filing preferred. - Strong written and oral communication.
- Independent critical thinking and analysis.
- Strong problem-solving aptitude.
- Computer skills, including the ability to utilize Microsoft Office suite (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint etc.) Adobe Acrobat Pro and experiment with new software and systems.
- Ability to read and interpret statutes and legislation.
- Strong time management and prioritization skills.
- Attention to detail and deadlines.
