    Job Summary:

    Performs work on both self-contained and transformer-rated metering equipment in support of Journey Meter Technician. Assists in the setting and retrieving of power quality recording devices and meter testing equipment. Performs necessary work in the office, which includes record keeping and filing. The position is an entry level classification where training is provided to advance to a Journey Meter Technician position after successfully completing a 4-year, 8-step apprentice program.

    The salary range for this position is $34.46- $48.25 per hour with a hiring range of $34.46 - $41.35, depending on qualifications and experience.

    This opportunity will remain open until filled.

    Essential Functions:
    • Assists in the daily operations of the electric meter shop.
    • Completes, records and files paperwork.
    • Restocks trucks and cleans shop area.
    • Tests and de-commissions meters.
    • Stocks shelves in meter shop and keeps accurate inventory of necessary items.
    • Receives and completes work orders from utility billing.
    • Helps set and wire metering installations.
    • Helps Journey Meter Technician in upholding customer's service.
    • Assists others in Power Operations group, including working on voltages up to 240 volts at all metering installations.

    Other Job Functions:
    • Attends classes in subjects related to the trade (a nationally approved Journey Meter Technician course program will be determined).
    • Completes 6-month training periods through actual work experience and successfully passes each lesson examination (80% or above).
    • Provides feedback in problem areas.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    Education:
    • High School graduate or GED required.

    Experience:
    • Some aptitude towards math/science and mechanical preferred.
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office preferred.

    Certifications:
    • Must possess a valid driver's license.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Ability to learn electrical theory, practices, methods, equipment and tools used in the construction, maintenance and repair of overhead and underground electric lines.
    • Ability to learn the proper use of meter technician's tools, equipment, materials, and occupational hazards.
    • Ability to climb poles and to perform manual work.
    • Ability to gain working knowledge of the equipment used in completing work projects.
    • Ability to gain knowledge of safety procedures and practices and emergency protocol.

    Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
    • Frequent m oderate to considerable physical effort that includes working from ladders in awkward positions. Frequent use of light or medium weight objects (e.g., 25-50 lbs) and use of medium weight tools.
    • Frequent e xposure to heat and noise along with working outside in the elements.
    • Occasional exposure to hazards that are predictable or well protected against.

    Additional Working Demands / Conditions:

    Incumbent is subject to call-back work, and must be capable of responding to emergency situations upon short notice. Mandatory duty rotation will include after-hours and weekend work and incumbent must be able to make competent decisions while on duty. May be required to be available by cellular phone 7 days a week. Incumbent must be able to respond within 30-minutes to the intersection of U.S. Highway 287 and U.S. Highway 34.
