DescriptionTHIS POSTING MAY CLOSE AT ANY TIME ONCE A SUFFICIENT NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS HAVE BEEN RECEIVED.The GIS Analyst analyzes data using appropriate geospatial methods, applies geodatabase design, and creates and manages mapping applications to support organizational or community needs. Duties include training county staff and the public in the use of online GIS applications. Trains internal staff on Denton County GIS standards and procedures. The GIS Analyst is required to provide excellent customer service, resolve problems in a timely manner, communicate effectively, and be a positive contributor to the Denton County Technology Services Team.
Examples of Duties- Researches and maintains GIS datasets by creating, editing, and interpreting spatial data; import, validate, and troubleshoot data from various external sources to address operational inquiries and support county functions.
- Assists with programming, designing, administering, and training of interactive web mapping applications utilizing ArcGIS Software for internal and external stakeholders.
- Prepares and validates address, street, and boundary data
- .Assists with creating automated workflows using FME and ETL processes.
- Provides GIS support across various county departments, including, but not limited to, Development Services, District Attorney, Elections Administration, Emergency Management, Fire Marshals, Public Health, Technology Services, Transportation and Engineering, and Sheriff.
- Creates and maintains standard operating procedures and thorough documentation for the department and GIS Division team.
- Researches the latest GIS technologies and techniques by attending seminars, workshops, classes, lectures, etc., as appropriate, to enhance and maintain knowledge of trends and developments in the fields of mapping and database management.
- Assists with maintaining and updating county facility maps using ESRI Indoors for future asset management system.
- Follows county policies and best practices related to information security; exercises good judgment to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of Denton County computer systems and electronic records; supports compliance with CJIS, HIPAA, and other information security regulations.
- Displays and reflects the culture, mission, vision, values, and direction of the department.
- Regular and punctual attendance is required.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor’s Degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, Emergency Management or related field required; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience required.
- GIS Certificate and/or GISP Professional Certification preferred.
- Must not have any Class B misdemeanor or higher convictions or deferred adjudications.
