OverviewThe Natural Resources Department has an opening for a Communications Coordinator!
In this role, you will lead the development and execution of the department’s communications, marketing, and public engagement strategies. You will also support the management of volunteer and education programs, as applicable. As the primary content creator, you will deliver professional communications services across all aspects of the department. This position serves as the media contact and spokesperson when appropriate, and is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing public relations initiatives, media outreach, inclusive engagement efforts, and events that support the department’s mission.

ResponsibilitiesWhat you'll be doing:
- Coordinating and increasing awareness of the department through effective communication and marketing channels.
- Preparing and implementing strategic communication and marketing plans, including periodic updates and reports.
- Developing goals and objectives; planning, organizing, and recommending strategies for department communications; and participating in departmental strategic planning efforts.
- Gathering and analyzing data related to communication and outreach projects, conducting research, and preparing related reports and recommendations.
- Establishing internal and external relationships by delivering presentations on behalf of the department.
- Overseeing education and outreach programs, as assigned.
- Developing and implementing consistent, department-wide messaging for internal and external audiences, including creating related policies and procedures.
- Serving as the media contact for the department-developing and distributing press releases, responding to media inquiries (print, TV, radio), acting as spokesperson when appropriate, and organizing media tours to showcase department initiatives.
- Supervising professional, technical, clerical staff, or volunteers, as needed.

What we're looking for:
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, while managing deadlines and multiple priorities.
- Strong knowledge of public relations practices and the public engagement process.
- Familiarity with journalistic style and media relations.
- Proficiency in marketing principles and in designing effective marketing materials.
- Ability to manage and maintain website content.
- Proficiency in standard business software, including word processing, web and graphic design, presentation tools, and social media platforms.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with County staff, partner agencies, and community members.
- Commitment to regular and dependable attendance.
- Ability to read and understand department and county policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Knowledge of general office practices and procedures.
QualificationsTo move forward in the hiring process, candidates must meet the required minimum qualifications. - Three (3) years experience working with design programs, such as Indesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, or in public engagement and outreach work required.
- Four (4) years of experience in a directly related field or in the performance of similar duties and responsibilities required.
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Public Relations, Marketing, Communications or a related field required. Related education or experience may be substituted on a year for year basis.
- Possess reliable transportation to be able to work in any County facility as needed and required.
