Distinguishing Features of the ClassResponsible for operational and technical personnel duties including application intake, data entry, file maintenance benefits and compensation section support, and general Human Resources customer service delivery.
The principal function of an employee in this class is to provide daily support needed to ensure a successful day-to-day Human Resources operation. The work is performed under the direct supervision of the Human Resources Director or his/her designee. However due the occasional access and handling of confidential information considerable leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative. The nature of the work performed requires that an employee in this class establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees in various departments. The principal duties of this class are performed in a general office environment.
Acceptable Experience and Training- An Associates Degree and one (1) year of Human Resources experience, OR
- Three (3) years Human Resources generalist and compensation or benefits administration experience, OR
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work.

Examples of Essential Work (Illustrative Only)- Assists the department in carrying out various human resource programs and procedures.
- Responsible for employment application intake and processing.
- Responsible for maintenance and organization of employee files.
- Maintains HRMS employee data, answers telephones, and verifies employment status.
- Assists Human Resources staff with personnel projects, training, and some benefits administration.
- Develops various reports and documents to provide current personnel information.
- Assists in the development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures.
- Prepares some written communications and notices to the employees and the public.
- Recommends new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect improvements in efficiency of the HR department and the services that are performed.
- Responds to citizens’ questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner.
- Communicates and coordinates regularly with appropriate others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities.
- Provides technical support on hiring, evaluations, promotions, terminations and performance issues.
- Provides information on all public personnel matters, such as job openings, pay rates and minimum qualifications necessary for employment in a specific position.
- Evaluates and screens application materials.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
