    Summary

    Promotes City activities, programs, and services to both the public and staff through use of digital communication channels and traditional print production. Creates and manages content for social media posts and campaigns, digital newsletters, online blogs and news briefs, websites, and other digital media platforms. Performs desktop and website publishing, writing, graphics generation and design, photography and videography. Supports and implements digital communication in an effort to increase citizen engagement and traffic to digital media channels. Other duties may include meeting with department staff on city website, social media efforts, supporting special events, and responding to staff and citizen requests.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Generates content for the City’s social media accounts by developing quality copy, graphics, images and video; gathering news, information, and photos; and collecting information from multiple sources on a timely and continuous basis.
    • Promotes department activities, services, and programs by determining the best way to present the message and the appropriate media channel(s) to use. Require onsite or site-specific coverage of news and events.
    • Assists in the development of the overall City social media strategy by implementing best practices, researching audience preferences, and identifying new methods to share social media content to include Facebook, Twitter, NextDoor, Instagram, YouTube and other emerging social media channels.
    • Supports monitoring and response to citizen inquires and comments on social media channels and city email.
    • Coordinate media requests for public information and open records requests on behalf of the City Manager’s Office.
    • Assists in the support of the City’s public website with regular updates and content creation including copy and graphics.
    • Coordinate public information programs; develop media relations and publicity activities to foster involvement and heighten awareness of city services and programs.
    • Provide public information and education regarding the City’s Storm Water initiatives.
    • Coordinate media designed to provide city employees, local residents, and area media with current information regarding all aspects of city operations and services.
    • Update the City’s website and social media sties with immediate updates leading up to and at events; to include capturing photos at special events for both social media and more formal media distribution.
    • Support city events by preparing program marketing materials, flyers, schedules of events, pamphlets and brochures; manage media relations and oversee production and distribution of published materials.
    • Create the marketing and communications for City Council town hall meetings.
    • Write, produce, edit, and distribute newsletters, and other city publications; compile information, write, produce and distribute news releases and news tip sheets to inform the public and the media of program, activities and services. This includes all publications both internal and external that are generated on a weekly, monthly, quarterly or annual basis.
    • Prepares presentations for City Manager’s Office for a variety of events to include, budget, town hall, citizen academy and a number of other events.
    • Assists other departments with press releases, and related media activities.
    • Other duties may be assigned.Supervisory Responsibilities

    Education and/or Experience

    Bachelor’s Degree preferred; one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

    Valid driver’s license.
