    What You'll Be Doing

    Wake County Human Services Child Welfare Division has three federally mandated goals. The first goal is safety - children will be protected from harm from child abuse and neglect. The second goal is permanence - children entering foster care will be reunited with family or placed in a new permanent home as quickly as possible. The third goal is well-being - the educational, health, and overall well-being of children in foster care or receiving CPS In-Home Services will be enhanced. Federal, state, and local policy dictate that Child Welfare seeks to accomplish these three goals by supporting and strengthening families.

    We are currently seeking a Child Protective Services Supervisor for the Serious Injury Sex Abuse (SISA) unit to join our team of dedicated professionals that protect children and enhance their well-being by supporting and strengthening families.

    Essential Functions:
    • Assists with the task of assigning abuse, neglect, and dependency reports to Child Protective Services (CPS) Social Workers daily by reading the reports and consulting with the manager when necessary
    • Ensures that CPS Social worker are assigning the appropriate risk level based on the care parents/caretakers provide for their children when a new report is initiated and throughout the life of a case
    • Conducts weekly (or as needed) meetings with CPS assessors and semimonthly meetings with in-home workers to staff cases for guidance and case decisions
    • Directs CPS Social workers through staffing and supervision (includes coaching) sessions
    • Ensures that required documentation is signed appropriately and timely and uploaded into OnBase
    • Ensures that social workers are knowledgeable regarding current and revised policies, protocols, statues, etc
    • Enhances growth by participating in mandatory and required training throughout the year for the county and state
    • Enhances growth by training and orienting CPS Social Workers who are new to the county and/or new to CPS
    • Interviews and selects qualified CPS workers who assesses safety of children under the age of 18 years, who have been reported as victims of alleged abuse, neglect, and/or dependency
    • Ensures that social workers are meeting annual training requirements for the county and state
    • Advises CPS Social workers at all case closures
    • Directs CPS Social Workers to submit daily activity on their day sheets that will be certified and corrected when necessary
    • Ensures that time sheets are approved and submitted semimonthly
    • Communicates with upper management regarding high profile cases (cases in the news), fatalities, disciplinarian actions, during supervision sessions or when necessary
    • Contributes to the planning regarding initiatives, new protocols, revisions of current protocols, hiring of new managers, training for staff, resources for clients, and other needs as they are identified
    • Ensures productivity by monitoring and reporting information regarding timely initiations and cases that are closed 45 days from the date that a report was accepted and 180 days from the time a case was opened for in-home services
    • Ensures implementation of new policies and changes on the county and state levels
    • Ensures productivity by keeping track of staff participation in training sessions

    Position(s) may perform other duties in addition to the above as assigned by management.

    The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

    • Masters degree in Social Work (MSW)
    • Three years experience in counseling or social work
    • Equivalent education and experience are accepted

    • Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW)
    • Three years experience in counseling or social work
    • Supervisory experience
