    Role

    Under minimal supervision is responsible for the provision of primary dental services.

    Major Duties, Responsibilities

    • Cleans, fills, extracts, and restructures teeth, using rotary and hand instruments, dental appliances, medications, and surgical implements. Provides preventative dental services to patient, such as applications of fluoride and sealants to teeth and education in oral and dental hygiene.
    • Develops, documents, and implements dental guidelines and protocols that focus on high quality patient care and office efficiency.
    • Documents dental visit in the electronic dental records system.
    • Coordinates patient care with the dental hygienist and dental assistants, including review and co-signing of patient records as designated by policy and procedure, and refers patients to dental specialists as needed.
    • Identifies potential opportunities to improve services, suggests solutions and new innovations and participates in their implementation.
    • Reviews and participates in the Dental Quality Assurance Program.
    • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.


    Minimum Qualifications

    Education:
    Doctor of Dentistry (D.D.S.) or Doctor of Medical Dentistry D.M.D. degree from an accredited dental school. Active, valid Arizona dental license and federal DEA license required. Basic Life Support certification required.

    Experience:
    A minimum of one (1) year experience as a dentist in a dental office.

    Additional Requirements:
    Must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license.
    Must possess a current fingerprint clearance card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

    • Basic business management.
    • Dental terminology and coding.
    • Billing processes.
    • Business English, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and composition.
    • Clerical office practices and procedures.
    • Research techniques and report writing.
    • Current Microsoft Office software.
    • Filing and recordkeeping.

    Skill in:
    • Leadership skills that create a workplace environment that fosters open communication, teamwork, and professionalism.
    • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing and communicating orally in a face-to-face setting and by telephone with patients, public and employees.
    • Developing, establishing, and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, employees, other agencies, and the public.
    • Organization and attention to detail.

    Ability to:
    • Provide timely, accurate, professional, and confidential documentation in accordance with department standards within the prescribed period.
    • Exercise good judgment in making decisions according to established guidelines and regulations.
    • Abide by all department policies and HIPAA guidelines.
    • Respond to community emergencies with a public health consequence according to the department Emergency Response Plan.
    • Keep management informed of key operating issues affecting the department.
    • Remain current in knowledge required to perform assigned duties.
    • Handle confidential matters and maintain discretion.
    • Act with courtesy, tact, and diplomacy.

    Work Environment:
    The work environment is associated with an office. The work area is adequately lighted, heated or cooled and ventilated. The work involves potential exposure to infections and contagious disease. Potential exposure to risk of blood borne diseases and pathogens. Occasional potential exposure to radiation hazards. Clinical staff are required to use appropriate protective equipment. Subject to varying and unpredictable situations.

    Physical Requirements:
    Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Sufficient vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech ability to communicate effectively in-person and telephonically. Capable of frequent repetitive movement of arms, fingers, and wrists. Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
