    Job Location: This position will be located at 205 Jefferson St., Jefferson City, MO 65101.

    The Office of Special Education monitors the implementation of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) by local education agencies to ensure that all children with disabilities have access to a free and appropriate public education.

    • Monitor responsible public agencies to assure compliance with state and federal regulations implementing Part B of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
    • Assist the director of the Compliance Section in planning and developing long-term strategies and operations to achieve goals set out in the Missouri State Performance Plan (SPP) for Special Education, Department Strategic Plan, and Commissioner’s Goals.
    • Collaborate with other office staff on the design, implementation, and evaluation of State Performance Plan (SPP) Improvement Activities.
    • Collaborate with other office staff on the implementation and alignment of the State Performance Plan Improvement Activities, Department Strategic Plan, and Commissioner’s Goals.
    • Participate as a team member/leader in onsite special education monitoring teams.
    • Provide technical assistance and training to various constituencies regarding compliance with state and federal regulations implementing Part B of the IDEA.
    • Ability to establish rapport and maintain effective working relationships with constituencies at all levels of the Part B system, including school district personnel, parent, advocates, and others.
    • Assist in the investigation of child complaints for compliance with Part B of the IDEA.
    • Assist the Part B assistant director in the development and review of training and technical assistance materials for Part B of the IDEA.
    • Participate in the development and evaluation of section programs and activities.
    • Participate in State Plan and SPP/APR revision and submission.
    • Collaborate with section staff, other office staff, other state agency staff, and contractors to plan and implement statewide compliance training activities.
    • Lead and/or participate on internal/external committees, counsels, and workgroups, as requested.
    • Attend local, regional, statewide, and national meetings related to job responsibilities.
    • Perform other related work as assigned.
    • Manage revisions/updates to guidance documents as assigned.
    • Demonstrate regular, reliable, and engaged attendance.


    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in special education or closely related field.

    OR

    • Four or more years progressive experience in compliance related work in special education, or closely related experience that contributes directly to the understanding of activities of this position.
