Nevada County Sheriff's Office is seeking a Senior Accounting Assistant. This position will work closely with the Accounting team, the CFO, and the Administrative Services Officer. This is the advanced working level of the Accounting Assistant series. Positions in this class are distinguished from the Accounting Assistant II by the independent judgment, level of supervision and review received specialization of duties, and broad knowledge and understanding of laws, rules, regulations, and policies governing their specialties.
A Senior Accounting Assistant is an integral part of the County's team whose mission is to support the Sheriff's Office by maintaining accurate records, recording transactions, and balancing accounts. This position is crafted for individuals who have graduated from high school and have two years of experience performing duties comparable to those of Nevada County's classification of Accounting Assistant II. No college degree is required but if you have taken a few courses in accounting or a related field, that's a plus!

Examples of DutiesVital duties of this position include:
- Researches, compiles, processes, and maintains a variety of complex statistical and financial reports and records
- Performs adjustments/corrections vital to maintain accurate records and to balance accounts
- Maintains office or departmental budget and detailed supporting documentation; maintains financial, statistical, work, time, materials, and payroll information
- Prepares and processes complex accounts payable and receivable including research and review
- Compiles expenditures and cost allocations for distribution to and for a variety of county, state, and federal financial reports
- Handles money transactions such as collecting, disbursing, and depositing monies and other negotiable items; maintains records of receipts; checks, balances, and reconciles cash statements and computerized reports
- Compiles departmental payroll
- May monitor contracts, reconcile various accounts, assist with budget preparation, and perform audits
- May provide lead direction, training, and work review to Accounting Assistants
- Communicates with staff and other departments to explain accounting procedures/requirements and provide general information as needed
Education and Experience RequiredCompletion of the twelfth grade
AND Two years of experience performing duties comparable to those of Nevada County's classification of Accounting Assistant II
