Apply to be an extra-help Crime Data Analyst!Starting Salary up to $56.10/hour*This intermittent, extra-help (temporary) Crime Data Analyst position will provide varied analytical support related to crime and criminal intelligence gathering in support of the Organized Retail Theft Grant. Duties include researching, collecting, analyzing, and disseminating statistical information and reports related to criminal activity. The position in responsible for communicating and coordinating with outside law enforcement agencies and the public. The position will work primarily with and at the direction of the Organized Retail Theft (ORT) Grant investigator, ORT Grant Deputy District Attorney, and the Supervising Chief Deputy District Attorney overseeing the grant.
Ideal candidates will possess many of the following:
- Two years of increasingly responsible professional administrative and analytical experience, preferably in a law enforcement setting
- Knowledge of methods and procedures of conducting crime analysis and research, including data collection, statistical analyses, and report preparation
- The ability to effectively make presentations and testify in court if necessary
- Knowledge of techniques, methods, and procedures of criminal investigative procedures
- The ability to organize and prioritize a variety of projects and multiple tasks in an effective and timely manner
- Knowledge of project and program management methods and procedures
- The ability to properly develop and interpret complex tables, charts, and graphs
- Knowledge of complex arithmetic and statistical techniques
- The ability to use and understand various investigative software
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Department of Justice Crime and Intelligence Analysis Certificate is desired
District Attorney's Office
Under the leadership of the District Attorney, Carla Rodriguez, the Sonoma County District Attorney's Office is the largest legal office in the County and has a staff of approximately 137 employees including attorneys, investigators, paralegals, and clerical support. Each year the office is referred over 4,000 felony cases and over 10,000 misdemeanor cases which include the full range of offenses.

EXTRA-HELP EMPLOYMENTExtra-help employees relieve or augment permanent staff. Intermittent, extra-help employees are not in the classified civil service and do not have property rights to permanently allocated positions. In addition, they do not receive most regular employee benefits such as long-term disability insurance coverage; accrual of vacation; participation in the County retirement program; or eligibility to take promotional examinations. I
ntermittent, extra-help employees are limited in their employment to a maximum of 1,380 hours within any twelve-month consecutive period. Extra-help employees who meet the eligibility requirements may qualify for a County contribution toward medical coverage.
This employment list may also be used to fill future extra-help positions as they occur during the active status of this list. The Civil Service title of this position is Department Analyst.

Experience: Work experience which would provide an opportunity to acquire the knowledge and abilities listed. Normally, one year of full-time professional level staff experience related to general administration, accounting, budgetary analysis, or human resources work including research, analysis, and preparation of written reports and recommendations would provide such an opportunity.
License: Possession of a valid driver's license at the appropriate level including special endorsements, as required by the State of California, may be required depending upon assignment to perform the essential job functions of the position.
Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesWorking knowledge of: principles and practices of business and public administration as pertinent to area of assignment; principles, practices and political implications of decisions regarding budgeting, fiscal management, human resources and contract management; principles and methods of work planning, staffing analysis and project management; techniques and practices of research methodology, data collection, and analysis; report writing; application and use of basic statistics; the use of electronic information equipment and specific systems as used within the department.
