Why you’ll love this position:The mission of the Land Survey Program is to develop and provide information required for the accurate and economical location of property boundaries in Missouri. The program is responsible for Cadastral and Geodetic Surveys as well as making survey documents available to surveyors and the public. The land corners established by the USPLSS (US Public Land Survey System) are the basis for the location of all property in Missouri.
We are looking for a full time Land Surveyor / Land Surveyor-in-training to make a positive impact on Missouri citizens!
Title: Land Surveyor (PLS) / Land Surveyor-in-training (with Certificate) / Land Surveyor-in-training
Salary: - Land Surveyor-in-training - $47,000.16 - $52,000.00 (see path to Licensure below)
- Land Surveyor-in-training (with Certificate) - $52,000.00 - $56,650.08
- Land Surveyor (PLS) - $60,000.00 annually (Salary may be negotiable above listing based on candidate experience)
- Conduct or assists with surveys to determine heights of points above the North American Vertical Datum.
- Perform field procedures to preserve existing horizontal and vertical control monuments.
- Coordinate technical land survey staff in performing corner restoration, cadastral, and geodetic survey projects.
- Take measurements, install and restore monuments of the original USPLSS, and prepare survey plats.
- Plan, conduct, and compute adjustments of first and second order horizontal and vertical control surveys.
- Conduct conventional GPS surveys to determine the state plane coordinates of control stations.
- Review the execution of contracts with professional land surveyors in the private sector.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: - High School Diploma or equivalent and 2 or more years relevant experience (substitutions for experience may be allowed)
- Possession of a certificate as a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) or of a certificate as a Land Surveyor-in-training issued by the Missouri Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Professional Land Surveyors, and Landscape Architects.
- Must possess a MO Driver’s License.
- Ability to work outside in all types of weather and navigate all types of terrain.
- Ability to travel statewide in the performance of assigned duties and occasional overnight travel may be required.

Preferred Qualifications: Coursework or experience in survey methods and GPS software Coursework or experience in computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) software Experience in Carlson Drafting software Effective communication skills Knowledge of principles and practices of cadastral and geodetic surveying.
Lack of post-secondary education will not be used as the sole basis denying consideration to any applicant. Path to Licensure: - Within 3 years from the date of employment: take the 15 hours of coursework and pass the FS (Fundamentals of Surveying) NCESS
- Within 7 years of first date of employment: successfully pass the exam and meet the qualifications for the Professional Licensure and successfully pass the PS (Principles and Practice of Surveying) exam.
