Job Description
As a member of the Incident Management training team, the Agency Instructor I will be responsible for teaching various courses within the incident management program. The Agency Instructor I will utilize their knowledge of adult learning theories and learning styles to maximize learner success and ensure overall effectiveness of the course instruction. The Agency Instructor I will use a variety of media to present course materials. The Agency Instructor I will also adapt course curriculum, when necessary, to meet learner needs. The Agency Instructor I will be expected to perform as the lead instructor for the deliveries of the various Incident Management program courses. This is a telecommuter eligible position.
This position reports to the Training Manager.
Required Qualifications:- High School Diploma or GED
- Four years of senior level experience in incident management and/or emergency response
- One year of adult education and/or training
Required Licenses/Certifications:- Must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
- Must have a valid passport or ability to obtain within 180 days of employment.
- Completion of IS 700, IS 800, ICS 100, ICS 200 training and certification.
- ICS-300 and 400 since 2019 or within 60 days of employment.
- Complete all requirements for becoming a "NDPC” Certified Instructor within 6 months of employment or possess other equivalentcertification.
Preferred Qualifications:- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in emergency management, criminal justice, fire science, safety, education, or business.
- Recent emergency response operations, training, exercise design and evaluation experience, emergency response planning, or emergency management experience and training.
Physical Requirements:- Ability to support training delivery for up to 8-10 hours/day.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
- Ability to regularly use computer/keyboard.
- Physical conditioning consistent with setting up classrooms, movement of training equipment and instructional materials.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:- Working knowledge of incident command operations in emergency response settings as well as emergency operations center /multi-agency coordination center operations.
- Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
- Ability to interact with clients and staff positively and professionally.
- Knowledge of basic office software and instructional programs.
- Knowledge of principles and methods for teaching and instructing individuals and groups.
- Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods.
- Skilled in utilizing various learning and active listening strategies.
- Ability to orally comprehend and express information and use inductive and deductive reasoning.
Equipment:- Standard office equipment: computer, keyboard, multifunctional printer, telephone.

- As part of TEEX’s mission of providing training, developing practical solutions, and saving lives; this position could be required, if called upon, to deploy within the State of Texas as directed by this position’s Division Director/HQ Department Head.
- Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving a personal or TEEX vehicle and/or flying on commercial airlines.
- This position routinely requires extensive travel (50% or more), which may include domestic and some international travel.
- This position allows telecommuting per TEEX guidelines.
- This position is funded from grant and/or contract funding, which is renewed through provisions of the grantor of the contract. Therefore, this position is contingent upon continuation of funding from these grants and/or contracts, as well as satisfactory job performance.
Essential Duties, Tasks, and Percentages:
Instructs Various Incident Management Program Courses - 50%- Ensures that the classroom is prepared for class delivery and that the delivery of the course is efficiently and effectively presented.
- Prepares, as a team member, for a class delivery conducted via an online format if needed, using applicable technologies.
- Prepares travel claims and ensures that they are submitted in a timely fashion at the conclusion of the training.
Assists in the Development and/or Revision of the Various Incident Management Program Courses as Required - 25%- Researches, develops, and writes new instructional material in support of the Incident Management program and/or updates materials in support of other incident management related courses.
- Assists with the research and development of lesson plans, outlines, training aids, manuals, and scenarios for practical application.
- Creates or updates PowerPoint presentations and /or other graphic training aids.
- Ensures that new instructional materials are reviewed as they become available to determine relevance with current courses.
- Serves as a team member in monitoring changes in national incident management doctrine and trends that could impact current and future courses delivered by the IM program.
Serves as lead instructor for the various incident management program courses - 15%- Ensures that each course is fully coordinated with the receiving jurisdiction; to include, preparing and shipping all required course materials, coordinating teaching assignments with full-time and adjunct instructors, and coordinating travel and lodging for the instructor team prior to departure.
- Prepares class records and After Action Reports and ensures that they are submitted in a timely fashion at the conclusion of the training.
Attend professional development training - 5%- Participates in a minimum of eight hours of professional development activities specifically targeted at improving instructional techniques (not subject matter) per year.
Perform additional program/division responsibilities-5%:- Actively participates in team meetings and events.
- Follows all dress codes associated with work activity. (i.e., travel, workshop, in office, etc.)
