    JOB SUMMARY
    The Computer Operator is responsible for scheduling and submitting production jobs and test jobs using job scheduling software. Monitors console messages and maintains the computer system, initiating commands and identifying response requests as required. This position performs printing according to specifications to meet deadlines and mailing requirements.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    • Monitors system messages, initiates commands, and identifies response requests to maintain the computer system by observing the console for equipment messages as well as all online applications.
    • Schedules, maintains and submits production and test jobs using job scheduling software for processing of daily work requests, updates control cards and verifies results in order to meet user's deadlines.
    • Communicates and coordinates restart procedures with applications staff to ensure the completion of required production and test jobs.
    • Submits batch processing jobs manually, as required.
    • Troubleshoots and identifies problems while communicating with supervisor, help desk, programming staff, and internal customers, to assure necessary tasks are completed for proper output.
    • Prints customer water bills and other communication as required.
    • Operates and maintains printers, print software and multi-function devices.
    • Identifies problems and performs routine maintenance on equipment, checks various error indicators and makes necessary adjustments to equipment to assure equipment remains operational until technician can be dispatched.
    • Contacts maintenance technicians when necessary to keep equipment in good operational status.
    • Maintains adequate inventory of supplies to ensure production levels remain efficient.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    DECISION MAKING
    • This position works under general supervision.
    • This position provides functional guidance and may train lower level employees.
    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
    • High School Diploma or GED.
    • Four years' experience performing computer operations responsibilities.
    • Ability to report to work on time, maintain a good attendance record, and work all designated work schedules.
    JOB DIMENSIONS
    • Skill in communicating effectively, verbally and in writing.
    • Skill in handling high pressure situations to meet workload demands.
    • Skill in safeguarding and maintaining a high level of confidentiality of sensitive information.
    • Ability to use job scheduling software:CA Workload or similar software.
    • Ability to use printing software:Paris or similar software.
    • Ability to use Xerox printing systems or production printers.
    • Ability to use computer software such as MS Word and Excel.
    • Ability to maintain regular contact with internal and external customers, repair representatives, and service agencies.


    PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

    Physical requirements include lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally. Subject to standing and walking for long periods of time to perform job scope. Working conditions are primarily in an office environment with regular exposure to mechanical equipment and moderate noise and vibration levels.

    Required to work hours other than normal working hours such as shift work, nights, and weekends.
