    About the Opportunity

    THE POSITION Special Projects - SR911 Radios About the Position The position involves supporting SR911 technical staff on the simulcast radio project, managing radio tower construction projects, and overseeing the maintenance and programming of the Sheriff's Office radio equipment. Responsibilities include inventory management, scheduling repairs, ensuring FCC compliance, and acquiring radio frequencies for Stanislaus County. The role also includes developing proposals for infrastructure buildout, researching funding sources, writing grants, and collaborating with other departments for project management. Additionally, the position entails developing training, managing frequency sharing agreements, assisting in the integration of secure radio systems, and overseeing communication equipment vendors. Other duties include maintaining updated radio profiles, supporting emergency deployments, and ensuring the proper functioning of radios across various departments and contract cities. Special Projects - StanCATT About the Position The position involves expertise in investigating property crimes, including stolen vehicles, related components, and insurance fraud, using systems like ICJIS, QueTel, NCIC, and StanCATT. Responsibilities include recovering and processing stolen vehicles, assisting with evidence collection and court testimony, and clearing investigation report backlogs. The role also requires supporting crime analysis, providing in-service training on auto theft investigations, and maintaining and troubleshooting StanCATT’s BAIT car and License Plate Reader (LPR) systems. Additionally, the position involves vehicle diagnostics, maintaining electronic anti-theft equipment, providing community outreach on theft prevention, and assisting with tracker and camera installations for the Department.

    Part-time extra-help is a provisional classification where permanent status may not be obtained. This position is subject to overtime, standby, shift, and callback assignments and will perform related duties as assigned. This position is non-benefited except for participation in a 401a program with Nationwide.

    Typical Tasks

    Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
    SR911 Radios:

    • Assist SR911 technical staff on the simulcast radio project;
    • Develop proposals for infrastructure buildout;
    • Project management oversight of radio tower construction projects;
    • Inventory of all existing radio communication equipment;
    • Maintenance and programming of all Sheriff’s Office radio equipment, to include emergency mobile and portable radio systems;
    • Schedule preventative maintenance and needed repairs for all radio equipment;
    • Acquisition and maintenance of radio frequencies assigned to Stanislaus County and utilized by the Sheriff’s Office;
    • Ensure FCC emergency radio communication compliance;
    • Provide recommendations for equipment purchases consistent with countywide communication interoperability;
    • Research potential funding sources for additional radio communication equipment;
    • Write grants in cooperation with other County departments to enhance public safety interoperability;
    • Collaborate with County departments in project management for efficient use of available funding sources;
    • Develop and maintain frequency sharing agreements with local, state, and federal public safety agencies;
    • Assist in the integration of 800 MHZ secure radio equipment with allied agencies;
    • Provide oversight of local communication equipment vendors;
    • Develop and provide training on radio system use;
    • Participate in emergency personnel deployments for safety communications;
    • Maintain the appropriate and updated radio profiles;
    • Provide updated radio assignment information to SR911 for entry into the main console;
    • Provide frequency information to allied agencies;
    • Plan for radio site development;
    • Maintain portable and vehicle radios across the Department including but not limited to SOC, Training Center, Coroner’s Office, SIU, ASU, Courts, Civil, Adult Detention CERT and Transportation, and contract cities Waterford, Hughson, Riverbank, and Patterson.
    • Perform such other and similar services in connection with any of the above- listed services.

    StanCATT:

    • Expertise in the investigation of property crimes involving stolen vehicles, related components and insurance fraud, ICJIS records system, QueTel evidence system, NCIC and other StanCATT data systems;
    • Recover and process stolen vehicles and locate stolen parts and vehicle equipment;
    • Assist StanCATT with collection and processing of evidence for court and expert court testimony;
    • Complete dispositions of investigation reports and case dispositions to clear backlog of case files;
    • Assist StanCATT with monthly and annual reports. Assist with crime/incident analysis, statistics and data needed for criminal investigations;
    • Provide in-service training to Department and allied agencies personnel regarding auto theft investigations, auto theft trends, and operations of License Plate Reader (LPR) system;
    • Maintain StanCATT’s BAIT car/system and StanCATT’s License Plate Reader system. Diagnose and fix mechanical problems in the bait automobile. Troubleshoot faults in vehicles;
    • Maintain StanCATT’s electronic equipment, inventory, and work with multiple anti-theft systems;
    • Technical and mechanical expertise in troubleshooting problems in vehicles and using specialist diagnostic equipment to repair and replace defective parts;
    • Provide community outreach and education regarding vehicle theft prevention and assist with public events such as club give away, VIN etching, etc;
    • Techniques in the automotive field and large equipment mechanics. Maintain vehicle trackers, GPS units, and radio wave Low Jack. Fabricate vehicle trackers and LPR systems to be deployed in the field;
    • Perform such other and similar services in connection with any of the above- listed services.


    Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education/Experience)

    • Maintain confidential information in accordance with legal standards and/or County regulations;
    • Operate personal computer and other modern office equipment;

    • Make presentations; and
    • Train staff.

    • Data analysis and program planning and evaluation.
    • Organization and functions of the various County departments and political subdivisions.
    • Political legislative processes.
    • Codes, regulations, ordinances and laws governing the operations of the County and other governmental entities; and
    • Basic principles and practices of project management.
    Education and Experience
    • Five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience in the system for which the specific department is requesting.
    License or Certificate
    • Some positions may require valid California driver’s license
