    The City of Kingman is located in Mohave County approximately 100 miles southeast of Las Vegas and 195 miles northwest of Phoenix nestled between the beautiful Cerbat and Hualapai Mountain Ranges along historic Route 66.     GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
    The Police Aide drives alone or in tandem in a police services car and responds to Police dispatch-based calls for service, conducts investigations, and writes reports for a variety of calls not requiring Police Officer presence including, but not limited to, motor vehicle collisions and criminal incidents. When necessary, Police Aides also work with Police Officers and City employees investigating various crimes and other activity. When there are no calls to handle, Police Aides may be assigned other duties through the chain of command.

    SUPERVISION RECEIVED
    Work is performed under the general direction of the Juvenile Services Sergeant.

    Minimum Qualifications/Special Requirements

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
    • Graduation from a high school or GED.
    • Any equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible experience that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
    • Valid Arizona Driver’s License or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
    • Must be able to successfully complete an extensive background check conducted by the Kingman Police Department.

    • Produce accurate, detailed, and grammatically correct written reports.
    • Prepare, write, and edit professional documents using a computer.
    • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive and work-related information.
    • Work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
    • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with City staff and the general public.
    • Learn job-related tasks and skills through oral and written instruction and on-the-job training.
    • Complete required OSHA/safety training.
    • Testify in court as needed.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
    • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.

    • Considerable contact with the public by phone or in-person in a one-to-one setting.


    Miscellaneous

    KNOWLEDGE: Thorough knowledge ofdepartmental policies and procedures and applicable City, State and Federal policies, laws, and regulations; Knowledge of the geography of the City of Kingman and building addresses; Traffic laws, ordinances, and rules involved in motor vehicle operation; Criminal Codes, City Ordinances, and definitions; Microsoft Office products and other relevant technologies; Crime prevention approaches, models, theories and their implementation.

    SKILLS:
    Skilled in the use and care and practices of safe motor vehicle operation and maintenance. Operating a personal computer and utilizing general office software applications; Working in a team environment; Providing customer service; Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to provide guidance to others.

    ABILITIES:
    Fluently read, write, speak, and comprehend English. Enter data or information into a terminal, PC, or other keyboard device to update/maintain databases; Write clear, complete and accurate reports and correspondence; Effectively communicate complex technical information, orally and in writing, to a variety of work contacts; Establish and maintain effective working relationships with assigned employees, coworkers, supervisor, other departments and the public; Follow and maintain safety standards and identify safety problems; Promote and adhere to safe work practices; Carry out assigned projects to their completion; Use appropriate tact and consideration in dealing with complaints and questions; Adapt to changing work priorities, accept changes in project schedules and meet deadlines; Work independently, and as a team, to complete daily activities according to work schedule; Use equipment and tools properly and safely; Perform in adverse weather conditions.
