Full-time position available with the Neighborhood Services Department, Animal Services Division, located at 7077 Elmwood Ave.
Salary Range: $23.98-$36.60/hourly
Normal Work Days/Hours: Sunday-Wednesday 7:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.; Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.; or Wednesday-Saturday 7:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.

Responsibilities
- Respond to calls to investigate complaints of unleased, unlicensed, vicious, diseased, injured, animal neglect/cruelty or stray dogs and other animals.
- Pick up and impound animals running at large, or which are ill, injured, reported be rabid, or haven bitten persons; tranquilizer gun if necessary.
- Conduct follow up investigations for animal neglect, bite investigations and dangerous dogs.
- Issue citations and/or warrants for owners violating the leash or other animal control ordinances; appears in court as city prosecution witness.
- Operates and cleans assigned trucks; performs fueling of assigned equipment in accordance with established regulations.
- Responds to routine complaints, police and emergency calls as directed.
- Use related animal control equipment and devices.
- Provides technical assistance to staff in difficult, technical, or sensitive situations.
- Train Community Engagement officers in proper use of all relevant equipment and field operations.
- Reviews and makes recommendations for issuance of animal related permits.
- Conducts Community outreach and education regarding Animal Health and Safety.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
REQUIRES high school graduation and 5 years' experience in planning/zoning, nuisance housing, building construction or inspection, health, safety codes and ordinance inspection or investigations: neighborhood/community assistance code enforcement, background investigations or criminal justice; OR an equivalent combination of qualifying education and experience. Must possess a valid State-issued driver's license in accordance with City of KCMO. Must possess or be eligible to obtain required police commission from the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and post offer physical examination as prescribed by the City.

For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.
If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
