    FTE: 1.0

    Hours per day: 8

    Salary Level: CU/4A, $46.78hr

    This lead position provides has flexible hours to assist in training to new custodial hires and continual professional development training for all custodial personnel. This position promotes a quality customer service environment through team-oriented leadership in completion of workload requirements.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

    1. Provides training to new custodial hires and continual professional development training for all custodial staff.

    2. Assists in developing and promoting training opportunities. Assists in improving training across the District and recommending training tactics to management.

    3. Trains chief custodians on summer schedule preparation and assists in communicating the cleaning plan with building administration.

    4. Assists with scheduling employee training.

    5. Assists with developing and maintaining a preventive maintenance program for custodial equipment to include identifying repair and replacement opportunities. Assists chief custodians in identifying and reporting maintenance issues. Provides work order submission training.

    6. Assists in developing and maintaining a comprehensive program for tracking equipment inventory and equipment movement (pickup and delivery).

    7. Assists in developing and maintaining Facility Master Plans.

    8. Assists in supplies inventory control and supplies order submission and makes recommendations to management. Provides input to help control supplies budget and streamline material and supply efficiency.

    9. Participates in custodial candidates interview process for initial employment with the Tacoma Public Schools.

    10. Assists in updating the staffing board to ensure District coverage for custodial operations

    11. Assists in reviewing, establishing, and communicating facilities emergency procedures to all custodial employees.

    12. Assists the facilities manager; communicates across district departments, general public, community groups, and outside agencies. Responds to and interfaces with various multi-crafts trade unions, makes recommendations regarding jurisdictional problems and concerns.

    13. Clean and neat personal appearance.

    OTHER JOB DUTIES

    1. Maintains, and updates knowledge and skills required for success in the position by participating in professional development activities and professional organization as needed or as assigned.

    2. Assists with special projects; performs related duties as assigned.

    3. Regular, reliable, predictable attendance or physical presence is an essential job requirement and critical to the performance of the work.

    CONDITIONS

    Occasionally required to work with, and defuse, if appropriate, difficult and sensitive situations and/or people. exposed to machinery with moving parts, noisy environments, and hazardous materials; required to work outdoors in inclement weather and at heights; required to climb and crawl; required to travel to district sites. Flexible work schedule.

    Education and Experience

    High school graduation or equivalent; four years of increasingly responsible journey-level experience in the custodial field, including two years of lead responsibilities on a building and operations, or any combination of experience and training which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and ability required to perform the work

    Licenses/Special Requirements

    Valid Washington State driver’s license.

    Boiler III Certification

    Fingerprints and successful WSP and FBI background clearance/sexual misconduct clearance.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    Extensive knowledge of custodial practices, procedures, and related equipment.

    Knowledge of state and local regulations concerning building management.

    Knowledge of computer-based information systems; ability to operate a personal computer using applicable software.

    Knowledge of leadership practices and procedures.

    Knowledge of supply ordering practices and procedures.

    Skill in establishing and administering a preventive maintenance program.

    Skill in obtaining, clarifying, and exchanging information.

    Skill in decision-making and problem solving.

    Skill in written and oral communication.

    Ability to perform as a member of a team and promote positive morale.

    Ability to coordinate activities.

    Ability to work under pressure and meet established deadlines.

    Ability to organize, prioritize, and maintain good follow-through procedures.

    Ability to demonstrate reasonable, reliable, and regular attendance.

    Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of people in a multi-cultural, diverse socio-economic setting.
