We are recruiting for one dual-role position split between DryTown Water Park and the Special Events division, as well as a second position dedicated solely to the City's Special Events division.
These positions require a creative, imaginative, and motivated professional with experience in customer service, team building and employee supervision, problem solving, safety awareness, time management, detail orientated, technology proficiency, strong communication skills, comfortable multitasking and working at a high pace, relationship building with partners and stakeholders, resourcefulness and creativity when developing community programming, event planning experience, sales, marketing, and staff development and a willingness to learn and grow. The selected candidate will enhance guest experiences, execute community events, and mentor a part-time workforce.
Dual Position: DryTown and Special Events Coordinator Key Responsibilities:
Assist in bringing DryTown Water Park services to the next level, focusing on customer engagement and operational support. Plan, coordinate, and execute various community events, shows, and festivals in collaboration with the special events division. Train, mentor, and develop part-time staff to ensure high-quality service and event execution.
Work outdoors in a fast-paced environment with extended shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required. Collaborate with other Parks and Recreation divisions on special projects. Special Events Coordinator Key Responsibilities:
The Special Events Coordinator is responsible for planning, organizing, and executing various citywide events, including festivals, concerts, cultural celebrations, and community gatherings. This role involves coordinating all event logistics, such as vendor management, permitting, site planning, and budgeting, to ensure seamless operations. The position also requires developing and maintaining relationships with community partners, sponsors, and stakeholders to enhance event offerings and secure funding opportunities. A key responsibility includes recruiting, training, and supervising part-time staff, volunteers, and contractors to ensure high-quality event execution. Additionally, this role ensures that all events comply with safety regulations, risk management protocols, and City policies. Operating in a fast-paced, outdoor environment, this position requires flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed. The ideal candidate is a highly organized, detail-oriented, and creative professional who thrives in dynamic settings and is dedicated to fostering community engagement through exceptional event experiences.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:This is a full journey-level classification. Positions at this level perform the full range of duties, tasks and responsibilities assigned with only minimal instruction or assistance. Assignments may vary from general support of the supervisor, or manager, to specialized support in a technical area. Incumbents are expected to perform independently and under general supervision and are reviewed for the result of product. They are thoroughly familiar with the operating procedures of the section assigned, and possess technical expertise related to the assigned programmatic responsibilities.
Coordinator I
This entry level class of the series is distinguished from level II by routine and repetitive duties performed according to established procedures. Incumbents are closely supervised in their initial assignments. As they gain experience, incumbents will work more independently in routine work.
Coordinator II
Working under general supervision, the position is the journey level in the series. Employees at this level require specific experience and less supervision and review to complete assignments. Positions are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the lower level, or if filled from the outside, require prior related experience.

- Compose correspondence and other public information documents for the department.
- Establish and maintain systems related to the assigned technical areas of responsibility; monitor area activities and report progress, as required; and manage software programs.
- Give out information in person or by telephone where judgment, common knowledge, and interpretation of departmental and City policies and regulations are necessary; provide customer and public assistance.
- Research, compile, analyze, and develop information for projects, and reports from a variety of resources. Assist in formulating program policy, goals, and procedures; and collect and compile relevant data supporting recommendations.

Example Of Essential Functions When Assigned To:Parks and Recreation
- Prepare, compile, tabulate and maintain data through use of databases, documents, statistical and operational reports, and records from a variety of sources; process other documents as assigned.
- Plan, evaluate, promote, organize, implement, and evaluate a variety of recreation programs, including youth enrichment services and activities, park supervision and community engagement, senior recreational and supportive services and events, aquatics programming, athletic leagues and clinics, water park operations, and community events; ensure safety of program participants.
- Operate and supervise day-to-day operations at City facilities, which may include the senior center, recreation centers, the airpark, museums, and aquatics facilities. Manage facility rentals, monitor and coordinate maintenance schedules.
- Prepare and distribute marketing and promotional materials. Solicit and coordinate sponsorships or in-kind services.
- Provide administrative support; prepare reports, letters, and other written communications; make presentations; and maintain files and records.
- Identify community needs and recommend appropriate programs.
- Coordinate and supervise special events, work with vendors, service providers and entertainers.
- Develop contracts and lease agreements; hire contract instructors.
- Prepare purchase requisitions, order supplies and materials.
EXPERIENCE & TRAINING / LICENSE AND/OR CERTIFICATEEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience:
Two to four years of increasingly responsible administrative, accounting or business experience that involves extensive public contact, preferably related to department or division.
Training:
Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a related field, unless noted below.
Parks and Rec - Community: Equivalent to an Associate’s degree from an accredited college, with major course work in social work, social services, business administration, or a related field. Additional qualifying experience may substitute for the education on a year for year basis.Parks and Rec - Events & Culture: High school diploma or G.E.D., supplemented by applicable college coursework. Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts desirable.
Licenses/Certifications/Other Requirements:Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver's license by the time of appointment.
Incumbents in these classes may be required to work during irregular business hours and travel on an occasional basis except for positions within Parks and Recreation, where they will be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
Special licenses that may be required:
- Parks and Rec: Positions responsible for aquatics programs and facilities may require one or more of the following certifications: American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Trainer, American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Trainer, American Red Cross Title 22 Instructor, Certified Pool Operator, National Aquatics Safety Company Instructor Trainer.

BUSINESS HOURS: Normal operating hours are from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm Monday - Thursday. CLOSED on Friday.
UNION: The Teamsters Local 911 represents certain positions in the City's Public Works Maintenance division.
EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION

AN ELIGIBILITY LIST of the most qualified applicants will be compiled based on the results of the selection process. The list will remain in place for a period to be determined by Human Resources.

A PROBATION PERIOD of six months minimum applies to initial employment with the City.
VACATION, HOLIDAYS AND LEAVE: The City provides 15 paid holidays per year and 80 hours vacation (years one through four) with a maximum accrual of 240 hours (160 hours for benefited part-time employees). Administrative employees accrue 80 hours of administrative leave per year with a maximum accrual of 240 hours.
SICK LEAVE: Employees accrue 96 hours per year with a maximum accrual of 800 hours (400 hours for benefited part-time employees). Unbenefited part-time employees receive 28 hours of paid sick leave per fiscal year.
RETIREMENT: The City is a member of the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS). Full-time and benefited part-time employees will be enrolled in either the New Member or Classic plan, as defined by CalPERS. New Members are enrolled in the 2% @ 62 formula and pay the full 7.75% employee contribution. Classic Members are enrolled in the 2% @ 60 formula and pay the full 7% employee contribution.
All other part-time employees are covered under the Public Agency Retirement Services (PARS).
WELLNESS PROGRAM: The program includes gym membership discounts, healthy eating programs, exercise classes & other programs.
DIRECT DEPOSIT: Direct Deposit is mandatory for all new employees.
CREDIT UNION: F&A Federal Credit Union & Logix Federal Credit Union (formerly Lockheed) are available options.
INSURANCE: The City offers group health, dental/vision, long term and short term disability, and a $50,000 life insurance policy for full-time employees. The City contributes towards the employee's health insurance.
DEFERRED COMPENSATION: The City participates in the ICMA-RC Deferred Compensation Plan, which enables benefited part-time and full-time employees to contribute on a tax deferred basis.
OVERTIME COMPENSATION: Overtime is accrued at time-and-a-half for eligible employees for time physically worked in excess of the regular 40-hour work week.
PART-TIME EMPLOYEES: Unbenefited part-time employees are reviewed for merit salary advancement but are not eligible for any other benefits listed. Benefited part-time employees are eligible for CalPERS retirement, sick leave, holidays, and vacation on a prorated basis.
MILEAGE PAY: Any employee may be reimbursed for work related mileage at 54 cents per mile when assigned to use their private vehicle on City business.
SOCIAL SECURITY: The City does not participate in Social Security and does not deduct Social Security payments from any employee's salary. The City deducts 1.45% of salary for Medicare and makes a 1.45% matching contribution.
