    Job Description

    The Training Coordinator, under general supervision of the Recruit Training Manager, coordinates training schedules and deliveries, works with the point of contact at host agencies, schedules travel of wage instructors, and markets/sells training classes. Serves as the subject matter specialist for curriculum development. Recruit wage/casual instructors and monitors performance. Monitors student progress and performance throughout the Academy. Recommends training and other relevant program enhancements to the Training Manager to meet or exceed the goals of the program.

    This position will report to the Recruit Training Manager.

    Required Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (Equivalency: will consider an Associate’s degree with four years of related experience in project and/or class coordination, curriculum development, and/or delivery training or a High School Diploma/GED with six years of project and/or class coordination, curriculum development, and/or delivery of training experience)
    • 2 years of related experience in project and/or class coordination, curriculum development, and/or delivery of training


    Required Licenses/Certifications:
    • Must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
    • Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) Instructor II certification or equivalent NFPA 1041 certification or the ability to obtain within six months.
    • TCFP Basic Structural Firefighter certification.


    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university.
    • 6 years of related experience in project and/or class coordination, curriculum development, and/or delivery of training.
    • Pro-Board certification in FF1, FF2, Hazardous Materials and/or other fire related certifications.
    • NFPA 1041 Instructor III certification or TCFP equivalent.


    Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to support training delivery for up to 8-10 hours/day.
    • Must be able to wear PPE and move objects/training equipment up to 50lbs.
    • Must be able to operate in low visibility environments.
    • Must be able to physically operate independently in an IDLH environment given the appropriate protective equipment, following current standards and techniques while operating commonfirefighting equipment and appliances.
    • Must be able to communicate both orally and in writing.
    • Ability to travel independently to remote locations by driving and/or flying on commercial airlines.


    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Must be well organized, able to handle multiple projects concurrently, and be detailed oriented.
    • Must be able to work well with customers, co-workers, and staff of all levels.
    • Knowledge of basic office software and instructional programs.
    • Knowledge of principles and methods for teaching and instructing individuals and groups.
    • Ability to communicate in a classroom setting or hands-on training activities.
    • Ability to facilitate and instruct groups of various sizes.


    Equipment:
    • Standard office equipment: computer, keyboard, multifunctional printer, telephone.
    • Standard fire protection equipment, apparatus and clothing.


    Notifications:
    • This position is security sensitive.
    • May have to work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.
    • This position may require 25% or more travel.
    • This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TEEX regulations and procedures.
    • All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and Agency safety requirements.
    • As part of the TEEX’s mission of providing training, developing practical solutions, and saving lives; this position could be required, if called upon, to deploy within the State of Texas as directed by this position’s Division Director/ HQ Department Head.


    Essential Duties, Tasks, and Percentages:

    Instructand manageassigned courses - 60%:
    • Manages the individual course deliveries of the Program.
    • Responsible for classroom and field facility scheduling.
    • Determines, plans and executescourse goals and objectives utilizing the resources provided.
    • Uses a variety of techniques for presenting course material.
    • Develops instructional techniques to accommodate various learning styles.
    • Initiates and maintains interactive classroom discussion.
    • Provides positive reinforcement and motivational incentives to both students and instructors.
    • Monitors and regularly reports onlearner performanceto training manager.
    • Evaluates and assesses instructional effectivenessof Instructor I and Instructor II staff assigned to the Academy.


    Additional support and instruction - 20%:
    • Plans andcoordinates future deliveries of the Academy curriculum both online and in-person.
    • Participates and/or deliversother courses as assigned.
    • Assists with Annual Schools and/or other special schools/activities as assigned.


    Course development and review - 10%:
    • Modifies or develops course content to meet changing needs and objectives, including visuals and handout materials.
    • Coordinates all changes and will be in cooperation with the curriculum, certification and evaluation group.
    • Submits class reports, and travel documentation.
    • Submits weeklyreports and all associated documentation on time.
    • Attends all called meetings unless dismissed by supervisor.
    • Interacts professionally with external/internal customers.


    Other Duties - 10%:
    • Performs additional work duties as assigned.
