    Duties Description

    Under the direction of the Regional Park Maintenance Supervisor, SG-18, or designee, the incumbent will perform journey-level plumbing and steam fitting tasks within the regional water, wastewater, and plumbing department. Duties will include, but are not limited to:
    • Repair, maintain, and install various plumbing fixtures and appliances such as sinks, showers, toilets, urinals, drinking fountains, hot water appliances, etc.
    • Repair, maintain, and install water distribution lines, sewer infrastructure components, and natural gas or propane supply lines.
    • Repair, maintain, and install heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) appliances, components, and systems.
    • Plan and lay out projects, including preparing materials lists and placing orders in compliance with NYS purchasing guidelines.
    • Execute projects and tasks that require excavation and/or confined space entry.
    • Assist in determining the location of underground utility infrastructure.
    • Assist in the operation and testing of potable water supplies and wastewater treatment systems.
    • Perform routine preventative maintenance on all assigned hand and power tools to ensure they are in good working order and in compliance with applicable standards.
    • Operate commercial vehicles in the execution of departmental projects, including commercial septic pumper truck.
    • Complete daily activity reports and accurately maintain additional required records.
    • Adhere to the agency’s Code of Conduct Policy and ensure compliance with all guidelines, policies, and procedures in the performance of daily tasks.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Four years of full-time experience* in plumbing under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.

    When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.

    *If verifiable, we will accept and prorate appropriate part-time and volunteer experience.

    Additional Comments

    OPERATING NEEDS:
    • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
    • Must possess a valid Class B* Commercial Driver’s License with airbrake and tanker endorsements that allows the candidate to legally operate commercial vehicles in New York State or obtain one within one-year from date of hire, and maintain it as a term and condition of employment.***
    • Must possess a Backflow Preventer Testing Certification or obtain one within one-year from date of hire and maintain it as a term and condition of employment.
    • Must possess appropriate Water Operators Certificates or obtain as assigned.
    • Must complete Confined Space Entry training as a term and condition of employment.
    • Must have knowledge and experience working with applicable hand and power tools associated with the plumbing and steam fitting trade.
    • Must be available to work a variable schedule that includes weekends, holidays and/or evening shifts.
    • Must be physically able to perform medium to heavy physical labor.

    ***Under the provisions of the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (1991), this position has been designated Safety Sensitive. The candidate is required to participate in pre-employment, random and post-accident drug, and alcohol testing.
