    POSITION OVERVIEW

    Position Title: Seasonal Intern - Finance & Accounting Intern Applications accepted from: Ages 16 - 24 Department: Finance, General Services, Houston Health Department, Human Resources, and Parks & Recreation
    Division: Various Reporting Location: Various Workdays & Hours: Various General description of the intern duties:
    Finance Various Finance/Accounting General Services Financial Management Assist with year end close financial activities including entering accrual, cash receipt and other journal entry documents, responding to audit requests, and assisting with invoice validation and determining if accrual entries are needed. Health & Human Department Administrative Services Division/Business Management Organize a financial filing system that is easily accessible. Prepare accounting reports to be presented to senior management if requested. Ensure accuracy of financial statements, ensuring the final figures on statements are correct. Assist with the balancing of the office/department budget. Assist with any requested task to assist the area. Human Resources Finance & Accounting Management Assist with accounts payable, procurement, accounting and financial reporting tasks; manage the division's inbox; adhoc projects Parks & Recreation Management and Finance Division The applicant will assist with General Accounting functions in the Management and Finance Division. Including budget documents, paying invoices, receiving revenues, producing excel spreadsheets. Learning about other division process and assisting with some purchasing functions. Preferable candidate would have a desire to work in the accounting field business administration field.
    Intern skill/experience preferred:
    Finance Various None General Services Financial Management Basic Microsoft Office specifically Excel and accounting knowledge. Houston Health Department Administrative Services Division/Business Management Computer Literate, MS environments such excel and words documents, sense of urgency, and productivity. Human Resources Finance & Accounting Management MS Office suite including outlook and excel preferred. Parks & Recreation Management and Finance Division Basic knowledge of accounting, finance or related field.

    GENERAL INFORMATION
    Thanks for your interest in the City of Houston's Youth Summer Jobs Program, which will run from June 9- July 31, 2025. Interns will work 32 hours per week and earn $14 per hour . This program provides an excellent opportunity for you to earn and learn by becoming a member of the team that takes care of the residents of the nation’s 4th largest city.

    WORKING CONDITIONS
    The position is physically comfortable, the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. Some positions require working outside in varied weather conditions, and the ability to use certain tools.

    There are no major sources of discomfort, i.e., essentially normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions. Some positions are outdoors and require the ability to function in warm/hot weather conditions.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
    Ability to read, write, add, subtract and follow oral and basic written instructions. May have a basic knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation. May require a basic knowledge of a particular subject area. (Individuals may be high school students.) Must be 16 years of age or older.

    Age Requirement: 16 -24
