    THE HOSPITAL(S):
    Join our Physical Therapy Team at Ventura County Medical Center (VCMC)/Eastman Therapy Services!     THE POSITION:
    Under close supervision, the Physical Therapy Aide will perform patient care-designated routine tasks related to the therapy services operation as designated by the therapist.. As a therapy aide you will work with Physical/Occupational and Speech Therapist

    THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
    We are seeking a candidate who is passionate about providing high-quality care while assisting licensed therapists, staff, and other departments with patients who require therapy treatment. The ideal candidate will possess a degree or knowledge in Biology, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or Psychology and or a Physical Therapy Aide certificate; possess clear verbal communication and writing skills, clerical experience, effective time management, and significant knowledge of the modalities of treatment for adults and children. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate experience providing aide in the improvement of motor functions, strength, and balance in such settings as a hospital, clinic, care facility, or assisting special disabilities staff in a school environment.

    WHAT WE OFFER:
    The County of Ventura offers an attractive compensation and benefits package. Aside from our base salary range, an employee within this position may also be eligible for the following:
    • Educational Incentive -An educational incentive of 2.5% for completion of an associate's degree, 3.5% for completion of a bachelor's degree, or 5% for completion of a graduate's degree.
    • Bilingual Incentive -Incumbents may be eligible for bilingual incentive depending upon operational need and certification of skill. Proficiency levels by exam are $0.69/hour (Level I), $1.00/hour (Level II), or $1.32/hour (Level III).
    • Merit Increases -New employees are eligible for an initial 5% merit increase upon completion of at least 1,040 hours (approximately 6 months) assuming work meets satisfactory standards. Subsequent merit increases will be upon completion of each additional 2,080 hours (approximately one year) from the initial merit increase.
    • Deferred Compensation -Eligible to participate in the County's 401(K) Shared Savings Plan and/or the Section 457 Plan. If you participate in the County sponsored 401(K) plan, the County will match a part of your contribution up to 3% of your salary, on a per pay period basis. Following five (5) years of continuous County service, an additional 2% non-elective contribution will be made to the 401(K) plan.
    • Health Plans -You are afforded a flexible credit allowance for purchasing medical, dental, and/or vision insurance.
    • Flexible Spending Accounts -Pre-tax benefit towards eligible medical, dental, and vision care expenses.
    • Pension Plan -Participate in the County's defined benefit pension plan that provides lifetime payments to retirees. Members are "vested" after attaining five years of retirement service credit. If eligible, you may establish reciprocity with other public retirement systems such as CalPERS.
    • Holidays -12 paid days per year which includes a scheduled floating holiday.

    DEPARTMENT/AGENCY: Health Care Agency -Ventura County Medical Center (VCMC)

    Physical Therapy Aide is represented by the Services Employees International Union (SEIU) and is eligible for overtime compensation.

    The eligible list established from this recruitment will be used to fill current and future Regular (including Temporary and Fixed-term), Intermittent, and Extra-help vacancies. There are currently two (2) vacancies, one Regular and the other Intermittent.

    Examples Of Duties

    Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
    • Assists with the performance of patient treatment and related tasks in accordance with training;
    • Cleans treatment areas and equipment and performs laundry duties;
    • Handles appropriate charting, filing, and correspondence; answers telephone; and assists in the preparation and operation of clinics;
    • Assists with positioning for treatment and transportation of patients;
    • Maintains adequate inventory of patient supplies, sanitation of therapy supplies and equipment, inventory of evaluation and assessment tools and worksheets, and splinting supplies;
    • Communicates with primary therapist in matters relating to patient progress;
    • Maintains appropriate records and documentation of treatment; and,
    • Performs other related duties as required.


    Typical Qualifications

    These are entrance requirements to the examination process and assure neither continuance in the process nor placement on an eligible list.

    EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE:
    Successful completion of a physical therapy aide program OR twelve (12) semester units in anatomy, physiology, psychology or human development OR three (3) months of paid or volunteer experience working with individuals with disabilities or with students/children in a school, care facility, clinic, or hospital setting.

    Verification of the college-level coursework is required if using the education requirements as qualification

    NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Possession of a current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certificate prior to performance of patient-related tasks. Once obtained, it is a condition of continued employment.
    • The physical ability to lift and carry 50 pounds unassisted.
    • Live scan fingerprinting may be required for some positions.
    • Possession and maintenance of a valid California driver license and proof of auto insurance may be required.


    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
    Knowledge of:
    • the principles and methods of physical and occupational therapy; neuromuscular functions and malfunctions;
    • the modalities in the treatment for adults and children with physical disabilities;
    • medical terminology;
    • human development.

    Working ability to:
    • take directions from multiple sources;
    • communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; effectively work with patients requiring therapy treatment as directed by a licensed therapist;
    • learn varied treatments and procedures in physical and occupational therapy;
    • effectively work with patients, licensed therapists, staff and other departments;
    • assist with clerical tasks as needed;
    • manage time effectively.

    Supplemental Information:
    Must possess the physical ability to position patients for treatment and transportation, maintain supplies and equipment inventory, clean treatment areas and equipment, and perform laundry duties.

    APPLICATION EVALUATION - Qualifying:
    All applications will be reviewed to determine whether the stated requirements are met. Those individuals meeting the stated requirements will be invited to the written examination.

    WRITTEN EXAMINATION -100%:
    A job-related written examination will be administered to test candidates' knowledge of office practices/computer usage, English usage, interpersonal relations, and medical knowledge and terminology. Candidates must earn a score of seventy percent (70%) or higher to qualify for placement on the eligible list.

    Candidates successfully completing the examination process may be placed on an eligible list for a period of one (1) year.
