    Job Summary:

    Under general direction, the Program Admissions Advisor independently performs complex student services work to support prospective students. This includes providing detailed guidance on admissions processes, program overviews, testing requirements, application steps, deadlines, and tuition costs for various academic programs, including Special Education, Counseling/PPS, School Psychology/PPS, Rehabilitation Counseling, and Educational Administration. This role involves conducting in-person and online information sessions, use a high degree of knowledge and judgment to best advise students on program selection, and screening applicants for appropriate program admission. Additionally, the advisor schedules and distributes notifications for program information sessions, ensuring prospective students receive timely and accurate information to navigate the admissions process effectively.


    Duties and responsibilities


    The Program Admissions Advisor is responsible for performing complex and multifaceted tasks that require a high degree of judgment, persuasiveness, and tact. Responsibilities include scheduling and meeting with prospective students to provide in depth assistance with program overviews, ensuring that students understand potential career outcomes for each program. The advisor applies working knowledge of policies and procedures to provide step-by-step guidance on the admissions process, testing requirements, state regulations, application steps, deadlines, and tuition costs for the following programs:
    • Special Education credential and master’s
    • M.S. in Counseling/PP
    • School Psychology/PPS
    • M.A. in Rehabilitation Counseling

    Under general direction, develops strategies and approaches to conduct information sessions for programs, collaborating with the coordinator, and monitoring enrollment to provide prospective students with program updates and other relevant information.

    Plans, schedules, and conducts application workshop seminars for College of Education credential and master's applicants.

    Screen and analyze prospective students' material by conducting thorough evaluations based on the program requirements to provide sound solutions and resources for enrollment success.

    Interact with students and others with advanced human relation skills and abilities to identify problems, find alternative solutions and resolve issues.

    Independently determine approaches and techniques to serve as a point of contact and build rapport with prospective students to provide detailed essential information and guidance for the following programs:
    • Special Education credential and master’s
    • M.S. in Counseling
    • School Psychology
    • M.A. in Administration
    • M.A. in Rehabilitation Counseling

    Serve as a liaison between prospective students and program coordinators, establishing cooperative working relationships to ensure seamless coordination of program information.

    Recruit for College of Education programs at the Celebration of Teaching and Grad Days events. Recruit for College of Education programs at graduate, career and teacher fairs. Engage in meaningful dialogue with prospective and continuing students through comprehensive advisement on their interests, educational strategies, and alternative solutions to support their continued education.

    Actively participate on the planning committees for the College of Education Annual Celebration of Teaching Event, Educational Leadership Summit, Heritage Events, and other ad hoc activities designed to support student recruitment and engagement.

    Perform other classification related duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related.
    • Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. One year in the program area to which assigned may be preferred but is not required.
    • A master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling.

    Required Qualifications:
    • Thorough knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior. General knowledge of the principles, practices and trends of the Student Services field as well as general knowledge of the policies, procedures and practices of the program area to which assigned; general knowledge of individual counseling techniques; general knowledge, or the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge, of the organizational procedures and activities of the specific campus to which the position is assigned. Working knowledge of student services programs outside the program to which immediately assigned.
    • Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action; advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters; determine appropriate courses of action and proper techniques to utilize while engaged with individuals in personal interactions of an argumentative or sensitive nature; interpret and evaluate descriptions and explanations of problems brought forward by individuals or student organizations, analyze and define the problem, draw valid conclusions and project consequences of various alternative courses of action; carry out a variety of professionally complex assignments without detailed instructions; and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals.


    Compensation and Benefits:

    Anticipated Hiring Range: $5,540 - $6,455 per month

    Classification Salary Range: $5,540 - $7,893 per month

    The salary offered will take into account internal equity and experience among other factors.

    The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year.     Position Information:

    Full-time Exempt Probationary

    Academic year schedule: Monday through Friday (8:00 am - 5:00 pm), some evenings/weekends.

    Summer schedule: Monday through Thursday (7:00 am - 5:30 pm), some evenings/weekends.

    Conditions of Employment

    Background Check

    Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

    Drivers License Check

    Possession of a valid Driver's License is required. Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program which confirms possession of a valid driver's license and reflects driving record.

    Mandated Reporter

    The person holding this position is considered a `mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
