Job Summary: The Digital Marketing Specialist, reporting to the Associate Director of Digital Brand Strategy, will take an active role in promoting CSUSB through strategic digital content creation that supports recruitment, marketing, and branding objectives. This position involves developing engaging, high-quality digital content across a range of Marketing and Communication media channels to enhance CSUSB’s recruitment and marketing efforts. The Specialist will collaborate on every stage of digital media production, from initial concept through production, post-production, and final presentation, ensuring content aligns with the goals of the division and university’s strategic plan.
Duties and Responsibilities: - Design and implement multifaceted content strategies tailored to recruitment and marketing efforts, leveraging data-driven insights to produce engaging materials for prospective students, including email campaigns, social media and web content
- Independently manage and support the university’s official social media initiatives for Marketing and Communications, with a focus on developing targeted, high-quality content for enrollment management accounts. Ensure brand consistency across all digital content by adhering to established guidelines and tone, reinforcing the institution’s identity in recruitment, marketing, and enrollment-focused materials.
- Strategically coordinate, schedule, and track digital content publishing across multiple media channels to support overarching recruitment, marketing, and communication goals. Regularly review and update content to maintain a cohesive and engaging presence that resonates with prospective students and supports strategic enrollment goals.
- Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications team to ideate and plan dynamic multimedia storytelling initiatives that drive engagement and enhance brand visibility.
- Create animated graphics, motion graphics, branded video templates, etc. as assigned.
- Use judgment and discretion under general supervision to make decisions, interpret, and apply a wide range of strategies to enhance social media and marketing and recruitment efforts.
- As assigned, meet with academic departments, student/clubs organizations, faculty, staff, students, and alumni to create photo/video feature stories, testimonials, etc.
- Provide lead work direction to digital content student assistants
- Meet production schedules and deadlines.
- Utilize strong story development, journalistic writing, and advanced editorial skills to proof written materials and edit copy updates to ensure university brand messaging is clearly communicated.
- Maintain project management system to keep projects current with status and publishing schedules. Utilize project management system to monitor project assignments.
- Stay current in software used in the office as well as industry software.
- Effectively use web communication technology to achieve communication goals by monitoring office email accounts to route and respond to inquiries as needed
- Prepare reports and presentations by exercising judgment and discretion to interpret policies, procedures, and principles as required. Monitor marketing initiatives and key performance indicators.
- Contribute to the Universities vision of being the Academic leader in customer service through quality, commitment, courtesy and teamwork.
- Attend university meetings and events as needed.
- Maintain, care and track equipment to assure adequate operations.
- Other classification duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Required Education and Experience - Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field and three years of related professional or technical experience required.
Required Qualifications - Working knowledge of and ability to apply standard theories, practices, principles and techniques related to communications in the public affairs, media, marketing, and/or sports information areas.
- Thorough knowledge of and ability to use effectively media outlets including planning media coverage and media publicity campaigns for the university and events.
- Ability to build and manage more sophisticated media contacts.
- Demonstrated ability to keep abreast of campus events and subject matter expertise in relation to current events to identify and capitalize on media opportunities that will promote the university and increase positive media coverage.
- Working knowledge of copyright and other applicable laws pertaining to publications and the media.
- Thorough knowledge of web communication techniques, vehicles and formats. Ability to effectively use web technology to achieve communication goals.
- Ability to analyze and select pertinent facts and integrate them into communication vehicles.
- Strong story development and journalistic writing skills, as well as advanced editorial skills. Knowledge of interview techniques and the ability to define and deliver media messages.
- Working knowledge of marketing and research techniques and methods. Ability to apply market research to identify communication needs and target audiences.
- Ability to apply appropriate statistical techniques and methods to research or sports information.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, including strong public speaking, listening and interpretive skills.
- Ability to provide lead work direction.
Preferred Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in mass communications, marketing, journalism, public relations or related field with at least six months of experience in videography/photography.
- Working knowledge of copyright and other applicable laws pertaining to publications and the media.
- Thorough knowledge of web communication techniques, vehicles and formats.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills.
- Ability to compile, write, and present marketing reports and communication plans.
- Experience in a marketing / public relations agency environment.
- Must be able and willing to take direction.
- Ability to produce in a fast-paced work environment.
- Experience in a higher education development or marketing setting is preferred.
- Working knowledge of applicable software packages.
- Ability to work with the media for the coverage of events.
Compensation and Benefits: Anticipated Hiring Range: $4,146 - $4,828 per month
Classification Salary Range: $4,146 - $7,500 per month
The salary offered will take into account internal equity and experience among other factors.
The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year.
