The Wake County Child Care Subsidy Program provides financial assistance for parents for their child care needs. This childcare subsidy payment is based upon an assessment of need, income and family size. Each County receives an annual allocation of state and federal funds to be used for subsidized childcare services to its residents. The Child Care Subsidy Program receives additional funding from the Wake County Smart Start Program.
In additional to providing financial assistance, the Wake County Child Care Subsidy Program provides information to the community on choosing and utilizing quality childcare. As a result of receiving quality childcare through the assistance of the Child Care Subsidy Program, children are better prepared for school success. We are currently seeking a Child Care Subsidy - Eligibility Caseworker I to join our team for a rewarding career that assists families in need.
We have positions available at multiple locations. The job duties of this important role include:
- Performing Duty Person responsibilities (respond to clients who walk in or call to see a worker) as assigned each month
- Assisting with the management of vacant caseloads as well as an assigned case load when there is a staff vacancy
- Responding to changes in situations from clients and child care providers and applying these changes to the client’s case per policy requirements
- Working closely with a variety of Wake County Health and Human Services employees from the Public Health and school system organizations, as well as those persons from other community/social services agencies on a daily basis to better serve the needs of the diverse population
- Performing full case management, to include: processing initial application, recertification applications, and process changes submitted by client for all clients on caseworkers case load

The Basics (Required Education and Experience) - High school degree or GED
- Two years of job-related experience
- Valid Driver's License and "safe" driving record
- Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience) - Two (2) years of experience as an Eligibility Caseworker in an Economic Services program (Child Care Subsidy, Medicaid, FNS, Energy, Work First)
- Associate or Bachelor's degree in human services or related
- Proficient in NC FAST and OnBase or with a document management software system
How Will We Know You're 'The One'? - Ability to handle frequent client contact, conveying information clearly and concisely in writing and verbally and maintain a relationship with clients
- Excellent interviewing and assessment skills
- Knowledge of Child Care Subsidy Program Policy, general knowledge of Human Services/Social Services programs and knowledge of community resources
- Ability to counsel clients in crisis situations, listening and responding appropriately Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain positive, productive relationships with clients and staff by listening, understanding and responding to identified needs
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable in an environment with frequent changes, working in a fast-paced environment with great attention to detail and accuracy
- Proficient with NCFAST and proficient with basic computer skills and the aptitude to learn new software
