    EXCITING SHORT TERM EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY FOR NEVADA COUNTY TEENS AGES 14-18!

    The Nevada County Library is looking to fill 7 PAID summer internships for teens to work at our Lunch at the Library summer program.

    INTERNSHIP DURATION: June 18, 2025 - August 8, 2025.
    Must be available for orientation on June 17th.

    TIME COMMITTMENT: Minimum of 4 hours per week. Flexible hours between 10:00am and 3:00pm (Monday through Friday). Applicants willing to work additional hours or for a longer duration typically gain a more in-depth experience.

    FLEXIBLE HOURS BETWEEN: 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM (Monday - Friday)

    HOURLY WAGE: $17.19 / Hour

    MINIMUM CRITERIA:
    • Must be at least 14 years old with the ability to secure a work permit and enrolled in high school with guardian-signed approval.
    • If 18 years old, must consent to fingerprinting and be enrolled in the 2024-2025 school year.

    No prior work experience required.

    THE OPPORTUNITY:
    Join the Nevada County Library team as a Student Intern this summer--an outstanding opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a vibrant community setting!

    This temporary position will report directly to the Youth Librarian and Branch Manager. This role is ideal for ambitious students eager to contribute to our outstanding library system and make a positive impact on our community.

    Candidates selected for the position will perform a range of duties from basic activities to those requiring higher skill levels to improve department operations. This role involves physical activities such as standing, walking, bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, and lifting objects up to 25 pounds. Accommodations will be provided for individuals with disabilities.
    WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?
    Assist with clerical and technical tasks, work with librarians to support the summer reading and the Lunch at the Library programs:
    • Assisting with youth programs, curating and maintaining collection displays, and supporting the summer reading program by signing kids up for the reading challenge.
    • Setting up and breaking down the free Lunch at the Library program.
    • Assisting staff and patrons with summer learning arts and crafts and STEAM activities; recording patron attendance for program statistics.
    • Supporting Youth Services staff in keeping the Youth areas accessible and engaging through tidying up and shelving books, along with other related library tasks.
    • Providing information to patrons about library programs and assisting with programming for children, including setup, attendance management, and cleanup.
    • Understanding and explaining library rules and procedures.

    Knowledge and Skills Required:
    • Student interns will be expected to communicate scheduling needs clearly.
    • Share feedback and ideas, and feel comfortable speaking with the public in a friendly and professional manner, especially with children and peer teens.
    • Ideal candidates should be enthusiastic about the Library and working collaboratively in a team setting.
    • Bilingual (Spanish/English) communication skills are highly desirable.
