We are currently seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Parks Maintenance Technician I (Part-Time) to help maintain and improve the city's parks, trails, and recreational facilities. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic, outdoor environment while contributing to the beauty and functionality of our city’s park system.
Position Overview
As a Parks Maintenance Technician I, you will perform essential maintenance and repair duties to ensure our parks and recreational facilities remain clean, safe, and inviting for the community. Your work will directly contribute to the enjoyment and well-being of residents and visitors alike.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate a variety of grounds maintenance equipment to maintain athletic fields and courts, playgrounds, picnic areas, trails, shelters, pavilions, boardwalks, and bridges.
- Apply fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides while maintaining proper records and equipment.
- Maintain and repair irrigation systems and wells.
- Install and maintain flowerbeds and gardens.
- Perform general facility maintenance, including carpentry, plumbing, and electrical repairs.
- Conduct safety inspections of park grounds and equipment.
- Maintain assigned vehicles and equipment.
- Ensure compliance with department safety policies and procedures.
- Support city special events and work on a rotating schedule, including holidays and weekends.
What We’re Looking For
- Knowledge of parks and grounds maintenance best practices.
- Ability to operate and maintain grounds maintenance equipment and hand tools.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- At least one to two years of experience in a similar role or apprenticeship.
- Ability to obtain a valid Texas driver’s license for the type of equipment operated.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Frequent lifting of light and heavy objects.
- Climbing ladders and using tools with high dexterity.
- Exposure to outdoor elements, including cold, heat, noise, dust, and machinery.
- Use of protective gear, such as gloves, masks, and goggles.
