    Duties Description

    Under the supervision and in coordination with the Park Manager or other higher-level staff, the Park & Recreation Aide 4’s duties will include but are not limited to:
    • Assist with planning and leading educational programs, interpretive walks, and stewardship events.
    • Develop new programs and content; plan and prepare teaching aids by researching and producing educational and promotional materials.
    • Maintain the Adaptive Hiking Program; including the reservation system, fielding public inquiries, training new users and volunteers, coordinating accessible programming. Must also clean, repair, and maintain equipment.
    • Work with stewardship team to evaluate habitat conditions and broader ecologic implications to inform educational programming. Includes collecting, inventorying, and maintaining specimens, taking measurements, and compiling data for presentation.
    • Conduct field trips for schools; prepare and teach lesson plans for a wide range of ages and groups.
    • Assist with community outreach and help develop social media content.
    • Acquire and maintain specimens and other teaching materials for programs, manage collections and exhibits.
    • Assist supervisor by preparing reports, training and supervising volunteers, and performing other administrative tasks to support programs and park operations.
    • Work closely with volunteers, the community, and vendors to ensure New York State Parks’ mission to provide safe and enjoyable recreational and interpretive opportunities is always met.
    • Performs other duties as required.

    Minimum Qualifications

    There are no minimum qualifications per Civil Service.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    Bilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

    Additional Comments

    OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
    • One year of experience in environmental education programming; or a Bachelor’s degree with specialization in natural science, natural resource management, environmental education, or a related field.
    • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
    • Must be willing to report to other facilities if operationally necessary.
