GENERAL DESCRIPTION :
This unique position includes a wide variety of supervisory maintenance responsibilities in a developing park that is not yet open to the public. Powderhorn State Park is located on the mid-coast of Texas and encompasses rich cultural and natural resources including wetlands, prairies, forests, and diverse wildlife.
Under the direction of the Park Superintendent, this position performs highly complex (senior-level) supervisory maintenance and construction work including coordinating the daily operation, maintenance, and repair of facilities, grounds, utilities, and equipment and the administrative duties related to the maintenance functions within Powderhorn State Park. Supervises, trains, and provides leadership to park staff and volunteers. Performs daily routine maintenance and providing preventative maintenance to include cleaning and inspecting of facilities and grounds. Duties include but are not limited to mowing, trimming, garbage collection, preventative maintenance, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, mechanical repairs, and vehicle maintenance. Operates and maintains various types of equipment including hand tools, power tools, mowers, tractors, heavy equipment, and trucks. Prepares reports and assists in purchasing supplies and materials. Assists with interpretive programs, special events, and enforcing park rules. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations, and procedures.
Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Education :
Graduation from High School or GED.
Experience :
Four years facility, equipment or grounds maintenance experience.
Two years supervisory or team leader experience, which may include oversight of paid staff, volunteers, or an alternate workforce.
NOTE : Experience may have been obtained concurrently.
NOTE : Volunteer or personal experience in facility, equipment, or grounds maintenance counts towards the required experience.
Licensure :
Must possess a valid States driver's license.
Must possess or be able to obtain, within one year of employment, a Non-Commercial Pesticide/Herbicide Applicator License issued by the Texas Department of Agriculture.
NOTE : Retention of the position is contingent upon obtaining and maintaining the required license and certification.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
Experience :
Experience with a wide range of construction, repair, and maintenance-related fields.

Required to perform work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions.
Required to perform manual labor including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.
Required to operate a State vehicle.
Required to travel 5% with occasional overnight stays.
