The Mohave County Attorney’s Office hires law students, college students interested in attending law school, and college graduates preparing for or awaiting LSAT results or law school admission. On occasion the MCAO, also hires exceptional local high school students interested in the law.
Our summer legal internship program is an excellent opportunity for students to experience the culture of a prosecutor’s office and legal career. Interns work with multiple attorneys with meaningful assignments and tasks that have a real impact on actual cases. Interns will be able to attend and observe jury trials, bench trials and other court proceedings. Interns will gain valuable experience that will complement their legal studies in college and/or law school.
Many of our successful interns return for subsequent internships while they pursue their law degree and ultimately are hired as full-time prosecutors/attorneys.
We are located at 315 N. 4th Street by the Mohave County Superior Court House. Mohave County Attorney’s Office is looking to generally hire between 4-8 Summer Legal Interns. Our MissionTo conduct the prosecution of all felony offenses within the County and the prosecution of misdemeanors in the unincorporated areas. Advise law enforcement agencies and the grand jury. Assist crime victims and witnesses. Represent County government and its agencies, school districts, fire departments, and other public agencies.
The Summer Intern is a temporary position of less than 12 months with most internships lasting 3-5 months.
The internship will not include benefits and interns can expect a starting salary of $16.00 per hour.
Work is subject to traveling to varying posts or job site assignments, call-backs or on-call status, and irregular schedules to include completion of work assignments on weekends and holidays.
Essential Job Functions- Tasks are generally at a professional, administrative or technical nature, and are performed at an advanced level.
- Performs receptionist duties; greets, directs, and refers visitors and callers; checks in visitors.
- Takes and transmits messages.
- Makes appointments; completes routine request forms.
- Performs general clerical work, typing, ordering supplies, sorting and distributing mail, copying documents.
- Performs general records copying, filing and retrieval.
- Performs and completes assigned projects related to the specific department assigned to.
- Responds to routine non-technical and/or unique technical or program related questions in person and on the telephone.
- Assists public in person or over the telephone with filling out forms or processing paperwork.
- Researches issues as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications- High School Diploma/GED (General Education Degree).
- Two (2) years progressively responsible experience related to the area/duties being assigned to.
- OR an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered in meeting the minimum qualifications.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities- Business English, spelling, and arithmetic.
- Modern office practices, procedures, methods, and equipment including entering and retrieving information from a computer database, creating spreadsheets, and composing letters and forms using Microsoft Word.
- Research techniques and procedures sufficient to conduct studies related to department programs independently and effectively
- Effectively operating personal computers, copiers, calculators and peripheral hardware and software products.
- Communicating and maintaining professionalism with the public, co-workers, and work contacts.
- Maintain clerical records.
- Learn specialized computerized software programs.
- Make routine decisions in accordance with precedents and regulations.
- Understand inquiries and provide appropriate directions or routine information regarding laws, rules, policies, and procedures to a diverse group of people in a tactful manner.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, representatives of other agencies, and the general public, and occasionally angry and volatile individuals.
- Operate a calculator, personal computer and other office equipment.
- Communicate verbally and in writing sufficient to provide information to visitors, staff, and other department client.
- Prepare and write materials related to department programs sufficient to inform the public and clients about department programs.
- Comply with Mohave County Personnel Policies and Procedures, and Department Regulations.
Mohave County's PTO is compliant with A.R.S. 23-371 requirements.
