    Job Overview

    Essential Job Functions

    Conducts preliminary studies of proposed projects to obtain information such as space and design requirements, and makes sketches preliminary to the preparation of working drawings; advises departments as to approximate costs.

    Plans, assigns, checks, and coordinates the work of a group of architectural design drafting and drafting per sonnel assigned to architectural projects .

    Conducts field investigations to obtain data, measurements , and information needed to draft or design details for alteration or new construction projects.

    Oversees and participates in the preparation of drawings and specifications of the most complex details of major building projects, using the Computer -Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) system, and the preparation of specifications.

    Oversees and participates in field investigations to obtain measurements and other information needed to draft or design details for alteration projects using the Computer -Aided Drafting Design (CADD) system .

    Makes detailed and final check of architectural plans, shop drawings, and specifications prepared by subordinates for completeness, compliance with codes, and practicality of construction.

    Coordinates the preparation of architectural drawings with structural, mechanical, electrical, and landscape architectural desi gns, and resolves conflicting elements with the appropriate unit .

    Consults with representatives of client departments concerning project requirement.

    Consults with technical consultants and representatives of building materials firms to obtain information needed in planning and carrying out architectural projects.

    Prepares technical reports and correspondence.

    Requirements

    TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
    Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college with specialization in architecture -AND- four years architectural production* and related experience under the supervision of a certified architect. One year's additional experience will be accepted for each year of college, up to four years.

    LICENSE:
    A valid California Class C Driver License is required to perform job-related essential functions.

    PHYSICAL CLASS: 2 - Light. This class includes administrative positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION:

    *Architectural production work involves the technical and design-related tasks required to develop architectural projects from concept to construction. It includes the creation of detailed drawings, models, specifications, and documents that guide the construction process.

    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
    Credit will be given to applicants possessing the following:
    • Experience in architectural production work under the supervision of a licensed architect beyond four years
    • Projects in the public realm
    • Alteration projects
    • Construction administration

    OUR ASSESSMENT PROCESS:
    An evaluation of training and experience covering architectural production work under the supervision of a licensed architect, projects in the public realm, alteration projects, and construction administration, weighted 100%.

    Applicants must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on the assessment in order to be placed on the eligible register.

    Applications will be processed on an as-received basis and promulgated to the eligible register accordingly.

    ELIGIBILITY AND VACANCY INFORMATION:

    Candidates who passed the assessment are placed on a register in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months. The vacancy is in Alhambra, CA but travel to project sites throughout the county will be required.
    The eligible register resulting from this examination will be used to fill vacancies in the Department of Parks and Recreation.
