Hawthorn Children’s Psychiatric Hospital uses the Sanctuary Model to guide our interactions with our teammates and the care we provide to our consumers in order to promote healing, safety, and nonviolence. This is accomplished by following the Foundation of Sanctuary - The Four Pillars of (1) Trauma Theory, (2) Seven Commitments, (3) S.E.L.F. (Safety, Emotion, Loss, and Future), (4) Sanctuary Tool Kit.
The Medical Department SOSA is primarily responsible for maintaining the credentialling and privileging for the Medical Department Staff at Hawthorn. This highly specialized function requires that the SOSA be knowledgeable in Joint Commission and CMS Standards for credentialing medical staff in hospital organizations. The SOSA is also responsible for coordinating the physician’s schedules, including the on-call coverage to meet the afterhours and emergency needs of the facility. The SOSA organizes and facilitates the orientation of new physicians, including the Child Fellows from Washington University. The SOSA also supports the Executive Committee at Hawthorn.
• Facilitates credentialing and privileging process for all Medical Department staff
• Completion of insurance company requirements and credentialling for physicians
• Provides administrative support to the Medical Director. Coordinates physician’s schedules at Hawthorn, including regular business hours schedules and on-call schedules to help ensure the coverage needs of the facility are met
• Organizes and facilitates orientation of new physicians and new Child Psychiatry Fellows
• Provides administrative support to Quality Counsel Committee and Environment of Care Committee
• Provides administrative support to Executive Committee Members (other than Medical Director) at Hawthorn (Chief Executive Officer, Chief Nurse Executive, Inpatient Program Director, and Residential Program Director)
• Updates Medical Staff By-Laws as needed
• Daily, regular contacts by phone and email with members of the Medical Staff, as well as members of the Executive Committee and Clinical Management team
• Contacts several times weekly with Medical Department at Washington University regarding Child Psychiatric Fellows assigned to Hawthorn
• Additional duties as needed
Minimum Qualifications: - Proficient in core applications of Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)
- Knowledge of general office practices
- Ability to maintain clerical records, operate basic office equipment, and interact on the telephone or in person
- Must be well organized, able to successfully manage work priorities, and must possess proficient writing and professional communication skills
- Minimal physical exertion required, including walking from administration area to conference room(s) several times daily. Minimal lifting of files, generally not exceeding 25lbs.
