A New Opportunity and what you’ll do...The City of Ventura is now accepting applications for the position of
Senior Police Records Specialist (Promotional Only). This position is critical in ensuring the accuracy, security, and accessibility of police records while providing exceptional service to law enforcement personnel, public safety agencies, and the community. The ideal candidate for this position will have demonstrated excellent communication skills, with a strong customer service philosophy in helping others in person, via written communication, and over the phone.
What You'll DoIn this position, you will serve as a lead worker within the records unit, overseeing the efficient processing and maintenance of police records. Your responsibilities will include:
- Researching, processing, and maintaining criminal records while ensuring proper classification and security.
- Providing essential information to law enforcement personnel, public safety agencies, and members of the public.
- Updating and maintaining data in local, state, and federal criminal justice systems.
- Assisting with quality control by reviewing reports and verifying accuracy before dissemination.
- Processing subpoenas, warrants, citations, and other legal documents.
- Handling confidential and sensitive information in accordance with department policies and state regulations.
- Overseeing and coordinating records processing tasks while assisting other records personnel as a technical resource.
- Ensuring compliance with retention schedules, public records laws, and security protocols.
- Training and mentoring new Police Records staff to ensure accuracy and compliance with policies.
- Performing other related duties as assigned.
Experience and Qualifications for Success! A combination of education, experience and training equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade and three years of responsible clerical experience, including 18 months of police records clerical experience are required. Requirement of keyboarding sufficient to perform the duties of the job. Lead/supervision experience is desired.
