    MOS Code: None

    Education and Experience : A High School diploma, GED, or higher and six (6) months of animal handling or animal shelter experience, and (6) months of customer service experience.

    Licenses and Certificates: Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent from another state.

    General Purpose

    Under general supervision oversees and manages offsite adoptions and assists with other programs to include outreach and education activities.

    Typical Duties

    Administer outreach, public contact and customer activities for the department's adoption program. Involves: Provide adoption center and offsite adoption coordination. Confer, counsel and educate customers on various pet breeds, dog and cat characteristics, and City adoption policies and procedures. Explain state and local laws and ordinances, departmental policies and procedures, and information regarding pet ownership, licensing, adoption, and other animal issues to the public. Assist the public with animal adoption. Assist and educate adopters on pet selection, pet care, and owner responsibilities. Interview citizens who want to adopt a pet. Collect information about animals and persons in accordance with department procedures. Increase awareness of the animal adoption program within the community by utilizing media contacts, newspapers, and promotional events. Plan and implement procedures to increase adoptions. Coordinate and collaborate with other agencies on jointly sponsored events.

    Schedule offside adoption and outreach events to support the adoption of shelter animals. Involves: Coordinate the selection of animals, collect necessary equipment and supplies, and arrange for transportation of animals to offsite events. Provide human care, treatment and handling of animals. Handle and move animals to facilitate the interaction between animals and patrons upon adoption. Collect cash, credit card and check payments for adoption fees. Create receipts and reconcile payments at the end of day. Monitor and maintain animal food and supplies in adoption van and other vehicles used in events. Disinfect equipment and instruments used.

    Performs assigned administrative functions. Involves: Gather and maintain data regarding adoption efforts and activities. Maintain animal inventory list and update animal records. Recruit and coordinate volunteer support for adoption events. Assist in training volunteers in areas of customer service, adoption and safe animal handling. Assist in the preparation of reports and presentations pertaining to adoption initiatives. Assist in maintaining social-media, create content and provide photography pertaining to adoption events.
