    The Missouri Department of Mental Health is seeking a Director for the Division of Developmental Disabilities. The Director oversees the administration of four Home and Community-based Waivers serving eligible persons with developmental disabilities in their homes and communities, four state-operated habilitation centers statewide, two state-operated home and community-based service operations and supervises over 700 contracted community provider sites. This position reports to the Department Director.

    The Director of the Division of Developmental Disabilities is responsible for assuring that Missourians with developmental disabilities have access to programs and services that will enable them to live as independently and productive as possible. The Division serves approximately 40,100 individuals, employs over 3,000 state employees, and operates with an annual Division budget over $2.5 billion.

    Responsibilities and Duties:

    • Provide leadership to ensure the Department and Division’s mission, values and outcomes are implemented throughout the state.

    • In collaboration with the DMH Leadership Team, work closely with the Governor’s Office and the Legislature in the annual budget process and budget management.

    • Maintain an effective working relationship with advocates, stakeholders, community leaders, schools, and providers serving people with developmental disabilities.

    • Communicate effectively with consumers and family members regarding Division facility policies, practices and activities that promote consumer and family involvement in decisions affecting their individual services.

    • Work collaboratively and creatively with staff from other state agencies to maximize services for individuals with developmental disabilities.

    • Identify continuous improvement opportunities to improve the value of services available to individuals with developmental disabilities.

    • Understand impacts of federal actions on state operations and work closely with federal partners.

    Qualifications:

    • Qualification requirements include at least five years’ experience in health or human services program administration with strong preference for managing developmental disabilities and/or community-based programs including oversight of facilities, budget, policy initiatives and personnel.

    • At least a master’s degree preferred in a field related to the administration or provision of human services programs, including degrees in Social Work, Business Administration, Public or Education Administration, Special Education or clinical specialty area serving people with disabilities.
